Hard drive is kaput, have I lost my ITunes purchases?
My hard drive has gone, so I bought a new PC. Installed ITunes, and just realised I'd spent a LOT of money purchasing albums, (and hadn't got around to putting some of them on my IPod). Have I now lost these? And is there anyway to transfer the music I do have on my IPod back on to ITunes?
I thought it was environmentally friendly to buy music without the packaging and the CD, but if it means I've lost it all I'll be gutted.
(P.S. I'm a technophobe, please answer in basic language)!
Thanks!

I Tunes keep records of what you have purchased so you may be able to get copies. I know when i had a new pc all my old itunes stuff stayed on the old pc- i can't access it through itunes or the new pc. But you could try asking itunes for help.

Take the old one to one of those computer repair places, they managed to save all of my music and most of my other files... It only cost $20, but was definately worth it, after 5+ years of downloads... Doesn't hurt to try...
And always back up your music with MP3 discs... Plus, it doesn't hurt to get an external harddrive for backup too... They are getting cheaper by the day.

Hope you learned a lesson about backing up your files. If its the motor in your drive that went south, you can go to a computer and have them retrieve your info, if the hard drive itself took a dump, then you are out of luck.

I'm not 100% sure if this is true or not, but I've heard Apple will allow you to repurchase your old iTunes songs at no cost as a one-time courtesy.

I'm afraid to say that you have lost your purchases. Once bought the tracks are your responsibility and you need to back them up as data files.

it somewhat is why you will possibly desire to back them up. If the songs are nonetheless on your iPOD you are able to positioned them back on your computing device when you get it up and working back. do exactly no longer hook up with a various iTUNES and accidently attempt to sync to a various computing device and erase them. There are courses which will take the songs from the iPOD to a various computing device. If the iPOD crashed, the songs are on your computing device and could be shared with 5 iPODS.
