I will speculate that happiness does not discriminate amongst the economic classes, especially over the long term.
I think that you'll find about the same amount of happy and unhappy people in all classes.

lower middle class tend to be happiest. The upper class are tied down by responsibilities which create their income and lower class don't have the income to enjoy life the way the middle class does. Middle class are mainstream, family oriented, Lucky Charms and a new car in a good neighborhood type of people, typically.

Believe it or not, but in my opinion i would have to say the lower end of the middle class, working class people who have good credit, but not stuck in financial debt to the point of struggling are the happiest, with the least amount of stress from thier jobs, and for those who actually have families, get to spend a good paportionate amount of time with freinds, family, and still enjoy spending some of thier money from time to time.

Happiness is a state of mind for the most part. Granted, having enough money to not have to worry about how your bills are going to be paid and where your next meal is going to come from will alleviate the stressors that cause unhappiness. But, I know from personal life that even though I may have a crap paying job, I am healthy, my son is healthy, I have good friends, and a family that loves me. So, I'm happy! (generally anyway, everybody has a "down" day here and there!)

The people in the "X" class, the class of people who decide to disengage from the race of rats. I made that decision after reading the book "Class" By Paul Fussell (subtitled A Guide Through the American Class System) I found it the funniest required reading in my Sociology class. Things like Sports" The smaller the balls , the higher the class. for example bowling versus golf., etc. etc.

Thats a trick question because I've known some poor people who were miserable because they put too much empahsis on money and I've known wealthy people who were in the same condition so economic class isn't the question to me, its priorities.

Everyone will say money can't buy happiness, and it can't exactly, but it sure makes things a lot easier. So I will say the top 1% of the nation that doesn't have to live paycheck to paycheck is happiest in their Xanax induced haze. lol

Upper middle class. They have autonomous jobs, enough money to enjoy the fruits of their labors, enough education to know what's out there to enjoy, and they earned their own money..so they can both appreciate it and feel that there is purpose to their lives.

None really.
Poor-some are humble and live happy lives but most long to be at least mid-class
Middle class-50% are happy other half are jealous of rich
Rich-Most are greedy and selfish (about 90%+) but some live happy and have guilt free consciounsess by donating to charity and going to church regularly.
