What's the dumbest thing your child's teacher ever said to you?

I once had a 2nd grade teacher say, "I don't like parents visiting my classroom." But the best was a 6th grade teacher, at a planned parent visitation night, upon being asked about my son's grade: "I'm three weeks behind on my grading, so I can't really tell you where he stands right now."

At the private school my daughter attended I was treated to the Science teacher relating to me, on parent/teacher night, how my daughter would get angry with the progress of the class. She advised me to tell my child that "Anger was not attractive." I became very unattractive and left the room.

    1. You are the only person to star my question. I think you deserve to get best answer.

    2. I will never call anything that a child asks dumb. The point of life (to me) is to ask as many questions and learn as much as you can. So teachers True teacher are the best thing that could happen to a child. Be that teacher a parent or anyone else.

3.The funniest thing my kids have ever done.... Mind you I do love Family Guy so my opinion might be skewed a little. My daughter is sitting in the back seat. She is complaining none stoop.. "Why are we in the car so long?"... "I'm hot".... When will we get there?" I choose not to respond (as the responsible adult in the car) by saying "just ignore him." What is my son's response at 3 years old?

    "Blah, Blah,Blah."

I almost drove off the road laughing.

    4. My daughter teacher doesn't like my older sister. They "hang around" in the same crowds. The teacher is.... stuck up... She decided to tell me that my 3RD grader was about to commit suicide and that we needed to seek professional help. Mean while she has been on the Principal's list and best students EVERY year.

Hmmm... She is in junior high and she is doing better than most of the other kids in her class..................

Wow! I'd like to say I can't believe what I'm reading, but...I can. It's good to read about what NOT to say (not that I would say these things anyway) as I get ready for the upcoming school year.

I will say that I think I understand what the 2nd grade teacher meant when she said she didn't like parents visiting the classroom, but she obviously didn't word it well. It's the unannounced interruptions that can become a problem, especially when a parent makes a habit of it.

I can't wait to read more answers, lol!

Related to your question: when I was in 7th grade, my science teacher told my parents during a parent/teacher conference that they should take me out of school and get me a job in a factory because I was no good and would never amount to anything.

Today I'm in Mensa and a successful editor in the publishing industry.

During a meeting with my son’s teacher to discuss the age appropriateness of an assignment she had given in writing, she responded to every question with “I’m not asking them to do that” or “that is not part of the assignment”. As I was reading verbatim from the sheet she handed out it began to occur to me that she had not even read it. When I called her out on it she told me “well I do not have time to read everything, I thought it would be fine because I got it from another teacher on a teacher’s networking website”

I don't have kids but, the dumbest thing I heard a teacher say was when it was teacher parent conference. the teacher says, "I went out partying with my friends last night and lost my gradebook."

At a parent/teacher meeting the teacher told me that my daughter was one of her lowest readers but i DON'T need to be worried. But the year before she was one of the highest readers.

I dont have kids but I swear on my mother's soul this happened to me in seventh grade:

on a spelling test we had the word minimum. the devil in me took over and I wrote " mother of a pygmy" even though I knew the answer. The teacher CHECKED IT OFF AS CORRECT. I showed it to my best friend and he turned so red from laughing I thought he was going to have a stroke!!!!!!!!!! I also brought it to the teacher's attention and for that she let me get the credit if I put the right definition in. and YES she was a blonde!

Our religion was wrong and she saw nothing wrong with feeding my son pork. Can we say 'lawsuit'?

Dumbest thing I said to a parent? I don't have your child this semester (ah he was setting in my room at the time!). It would be nice if parents would not use nicknames when discussing their child with me!
