  • How do people poop from hot air balloons?

I'm not talking about a lesiurely ride up, but rather the around-the-world type of trip. Do they keep buckets or bags or something, or do they drop trou over the basket? And if they do the latter, isn't that a little rude? I've tried doing a quick Internet search on this, but I don't think it's a burning question for many people.

  • Ear draining a couple months after tubes?

My 3 year old got tubes in December. Today she has a bunch of orange dried up gunk draining out of one of her ears. She's had a runny nose, so I'm assuming that maybe she has a sinus infection, and now her ears are draining what normally would have just clogged up and caused an ear infection before her tubes. Any similar stories? Is it something to worry about?

I know, I know, ask a doctor and not the Internet. It's Friday night, though, and I'm curious enough to ask before calling the doctor on Monday.

  • Bob's Burgers voice question?

Who did the voice of the guy doing the documentary about Moolissa? I don't remember the name of the character, and I don't think it showed up on imdb (yet). I know that voice!

  • What does a pre-op for ear tubes involve?

My daughter's getting tubes in her ears soon, and we have a pre-op appointment first. What happens during it, and how long do they typically last?

  • Contact lens prescription too strong?

My contacts Rx seems to increase a little each year, although every now and then I'll go back a quarter. Last year I think I was prescribed -3.00 in R and -2.75 in L, but I might be off by +0.25 in memory. I'm a 29 year old female. This week my eyes were actually dilated, which hasn't been done for a few years. This doctor put me in Acuvue Oasis instead of Advance b/c they seem to be more dirt-resistant than Advance. Anyway, he cut my prescription down to -1.75 in R & -1.50 in L and said he thinks I may have been overprescribed in the past. He also said most females' eyes stop changing around the age of 17, which surprised me given that my Rx hasn't STOPPED changing since then.

Could the fact that I was dilated explain how he was able to notice my Rx was too strong? I'm still noticing some eye strain today when I'm reading, but I just got these contacts yesterday. What gives? The more I think about it, the more irritated I am at the thought that it's been wrong all this time.

  • What can I make with a bag full of lemons?

I bought a bag full of lemons to use as a prop in a video. Besides putting them in a glass bowl for a centerpiece, what sort of dessert can I make with them? It looks like most of the recipes I found online call for lemon juice. I guess I don't mind squeezing them for juice, but is there something else I'm missing?

  • I WANT my chocolate to bloom. What's the quickest way to do this?

I want my students to be able to see the chocolate bloom effect. If I melt dark chocolate in the microwave at the beginning of class and then stick it in the freezer or fridge to set, about how long will it take to set in order for us to see the white stuff?

If it'll take too long, I may just begin the process tonight here at home.

    Thanks!

  • Will Obama release the text to his speech to students prior to broadcasting?

I want to say he released the text prior to airing his speech last year. Does anyone know if he will do the same this year?

  • Bleeped out word on "If You Really Knew Me"?

What word did MTV bleep out when the jock was referring to the B-Wall where the "Mexicans" hang out? I'm not well-versed in racial slurs (assuming that's what it was).

  • What makes a cake from scratch fail?

My nephew tried to make a carrot cake from scratch w/a recipe he got from ehow.com. He followed the directions exactly, with the exception of how he mixed the ingredients. He didn't have a mixer with him, so he just mixed it all up for a while. Would the consistency of the batter screw the whole thing up? It looked dark brown and/or black and bubbly. It started out looking like a normal cake in the oven, but something went horribly wrong. What gives?

    Here are the ingredients:

    2 c sugar; 1 1/2 c veg. oil; 4 eggs; 3 c raw grated carrots; 2 c flour; 2 tsps baking powder; 2 tsps baking soda; 2 tsps cinnamon; 1 tsp salt

  • What would glazed pearl onions taste great with?

Kitchen-illiterate friends having a Top Chef competition tomorrow. The idea behind it (beyond it being super fun) is to find things that we would normally never cook but could legitimately see ourselves making and eating in the future. I have to do something with onions, so I'm researching different possibilities.

I like the idea of glazing pearl onions b/c the onions would be the focus (which I think is where my competitors may go wrong w/their vegetables). What do you think would be nice to serve w/them if I went this route? My budget is $5, w/the exception of any ingredients we already have in our kitchen. Best idea gets the 10 points!

PS- There's no monetary award for winning our Top Chef competition. The winner gets to wear a head/sweat band for the day until the next time we do it. And we can all just do recipes we find. So don't feel guilty about helping.

  • Can I make tortilla sopaipillas using peanut oil?

I remember making them in middle school Spanish class, and I'd like to make some now. I've got vegetable oil and peanut oil (and maybe olive oil too). There's already peanut oil in the deep fryer, but it's been used to cook chicken. What's the best route here? I'm pretty kitchen-illiterate.

  • How is Obama evil in regards to the gulf oil spill?

I ask because I've seen this remark elsewhere. I'm curious as to what sorts of solid evidence/arguments there really are, because I'm in the dark on this one. I normally try to avoid these sorts of discussions on here because they're so easy to get sucked into, but I welcome all mature and sincere debate from all sides. :)

  • what sorts of questions might parents want answered by a teacher?

I'm compiling a list of questions (with answers) about a variety of education-related topics that will help parents feel more informed about their child's education. Examples of questions I have already on the list are:

    What is differentiation?

    What is guided reading?

    What is cooperative learning?

What do we need to know about standardized testing?

What does the research say about retention?

What does the research say about homework?

I'd love some more ideas of things to include on the list, especially from parents of elementary school-aged children. What do you feel you should know more about? I'm looking for more general/broad questions, and not things that would be specific to my class.

Man, they're like $40 and up! Even at Target! Am I missing something? I want a pretty watering can, but I didn't realize they cost an arm and a leg.

  • Can mahogany veneer be stained?

My husband restored a family heirloom, but there was one piece of wood involved that was rotted beyond what he could repair. I asked a friend's husband to look at it, and he says he's going to try to replace the rotted part of the wood with mahogany veneer. We've already stained the rest of the heirloom black. The only thing missing is the piece my friend's husband has. I know nothing about woodworking, but I want to make sure this piece isn't going to look completely different from the rest of it. I also don't want to come right out and ask the man who's helping us, because I don't want to offend him.

Short story long, we'll be able to stain this just like the rest of it, right?

  • brief description of twilight characters?

I'm a total poser. I haven't read the books, and I couldn't get through the first movie b/c, well, it sucked (no pun intended). BUT, my fellow teachers and I get to dress up as book characters one day for school, and doing something together is usually more fun. I suggested Twilight since the other teachers like it so much. Could you Twilighters give me the list of main female characters along with a very brief description of what they're like? I can search their images. I know Bella. That's about it.
