Sea level question?
What do you think would happen if every single boat/ship/submarine/etc was taken out of the sea at exactly the same time?

Let's pretend there are 1 million huge tankers/sumarines in the water, even though the total displacement of boats is probably a lot less than that. Let's say they each displace 500*100*100 meters, much larger than the displacement of any ship on Earth I believe, or a total of
500*100*100*1,000,000 = 5 trillion cubic meters
Earth's mean radius is 6373km, so it's surface area is that squared times 4pi, or about 510,385,957 square kilometers. Of that, about 2/3 of that is open water, about 340 million square kilometers, which times 1000^2 is 340 trillion square meters. 5/340 =~ 0.0147 meters, or about 15mm, barely 1/2 inch.
This estimate is well over the actual amount, perhaps by a factor of maybe 10 to 1000 or more. You could collect some statistics and improve the accuracy. A fraction of a millimeter is probably in the ballpark.

Nothing noticeable... of course the water level would technically decrease for every ship removed in accordance with it's submerged volume but that amount is ridiculously small compared to the volume of the ocean.

umm.. depends how many there are
maybe sea level would drop!
weve just solved the problem of global warming - we can now combat the rising sea level - every month remove 10 ships from the sea!
wow!!! of course trade would decrease, and maybe there would be more flights to substitute the boats but... every country would just have to be self sufficient

There would be lots of claims for extra pay for working antisocial hours etc.Would make no measurable difference to water level in the open seas or oceans nor the great lakes or inland seas.

The Sea level would probably go down.
Because there wouldn't be much Water dispalcement

Let us assume our sun enters nova state when the period is seen at this sentence end. Now you got a few seconds shy
of three full minues before this question is resolved. Feel better? You've got time to stand, find window, and look up.
Your mind will register a change in the lighting. You'll become
a gas shortly thereafter. Enjoy.

As water always adheres a level...I guess that the sea level would not change but as you reduce the volume of water displacement by removing everything in it(including all the marine life!) it should theoretically recede a little? ....But the ice meltdown would soon replace this void!!!

with the size of the sea and the size of the ships i think the sea will drop about 1/4 inch or less.
just my opinion.

Well, there would be less pressure on the sea i guess. But i guess nothing would happen to the sea level.
