The Yankees: Hate 'em or love 'em and why?

i was just at the toronto blue jays vs. the new york yankees game in toronto. i was curious to see so many yankee fans, but what even intrigued me more was the turnout of fans wearing red sox and mets uniforms. now i came to this game to root against the yankees, being a red sox fan, but i did not expect so many other fans in toronto to come just to root against the yankees and not for the blue jays. i know that toronto is fairly close to new york, so i guess the yankee fan turnout is understandable. but what were so many yankee haters doing in the stadium today?

my real question is what is the reason for you yankee extremists to hate on or root for the yankees? there was no way that all of the yankee fans came from new york, and certainly all the yankee haters did not come a long way either.

I love the Yankees, they are my favorite team. It boggles my mind to think that people who are not fans on the opposing team would still travel to root against the Yankees. I don't like the Red Sox, but there's no way that I would go to an Orioles-Red Sox game to root against the Red Sox. Why would I want to? I can't quite figure out the thought processes of Mets and Red Sox fans described in your question. So they hate the Yankees. Is it worth it to waste your time and money coming to root against them, even though your team is not playing? I can't answer your question about Yankee haters traveling to root against the Yankees because I don't know why people would be so angry and full of hate. After all, it's just a game. I can say that most of the Yankee fans DO come from New York. In my area alone, there are many buses that offer transportation to Toronto every time the Yankees play. When combined with Yankee fans who drive to Toronto, there are thousands right there. Many come from Canada too. The Yankees are like the Dallas Cowboys, they have fans everywhere, along with people who hate them.

I'm a Yankee fan because I'm from Northern New York, and was raised in a family of Yankee fans (though for some unknown reason, I have a cousin who roots for the Mets), and it is in my blood. Yankee fans are always accused of jumping on the bandwagon, or for being fairweather fans, but that is not the case.

It's just the way it is.

Lots of Yankee fans just jump on the banwagon.

The Sox and Yanks have had such a history that fans really feel this way.

Red Sox Nation is all over.

To explain the situation in Toronto: Many people go on vacation and want to see a game, but don't really want to root for a team that is playing. It's cool to go to different stadiums.

It can be very hard to get tix for other stadiums like Fenway.

I love the Yankees because I was born in a hospital in the Bronx that is very close to Yankee Stadium. I've been a New Yorker and Yankee fan all my life, and I don't want to change that. The Yankees are a historic team, and it's fun to watch them because of the rivalries (the cross town rivalry with the Mets and the more heated rivalry between the Yankees and the Red Sox).

I've been a fan of the Yankees since 1976. 'Don't really follow them as much as I used to. MLB is a joke. Playing baseball is like playing poker, or someother game of chance. Teams play 162 games and the best teams barely win 95-100 games. Not because of parity but because of the nature of baseball. To much reliance on multiple pitchers. Imagine every NFL teams using a different QP each week. We'd probably see 7-9, 8-8 teams win the superbowl. The Yankees have the highest payroll in baseball, and have not won the WS in several years. Of course, high payroll does not equate to victories, but usually indicate above average talent. If a NBA team or a NFL team(excluding the Redskins) had the talent and payroll equivalent to that of the Yankees, you can almost guarantee that team would consistently go deep into the playoffs.

I am a Yankees fan. I love them. I live close to NY and know the players and the history of the Yankees. Sometimes I get mad when they lose a game .. but I still love them because I grew up hearing about the Yankees and collecting Yankee merchandise.

ya, its often seen that when the yankees come to town the turnout of fans skyrockets. especially in boston. the yankees have such a history and so much success that everyone has a strong opinion like u said. and for a team like the royals, most years if they sweep the yankees at home or something, thast the seasons highlight. its because every team wants to beat them

in short, i love 'em and for that reason

I love to hate the Yankees, 'cause I'm a Red Sox fan!

In fact, I love two teams. The Red Sox, and whoever beats the Yankees. (Good tee shirt quote there)

if we are to make such a big deal about steroids today saying that it gives a player an edge then I guess one can make a case that the Yankees as a whole can be considered the steroid team simply by the fact that there is no salary cap which make it an edge for their team, the playing field has to be considered uneven in that sense. this i think it turns a lot of people off about the Yankees as it may seem they have A unfair playing advantage because of their market revenue
