Retinal Detachement in dogs?

My dog was diagnosed yesterday with retinal detachement in both eyes. The opthamalogist believes that it is immune mediated, and said can be treated and possibly cured with cortizone tablets. They still want me to get hundreds of dollars worth of bloodwork done, and I can't afford it. The blindness is his only symptom, and there was no hemmoraging in the eye. If I can't afford to have him treated for anything else anyway. Doesn't it make sense to try the cortizone, and see if we can save his vision? Will cortizone have any adverse affects if it is something like rocky mountain fever, or a fungal infection?

Firstly you need to get your dog treated, if you can't afford it there are ways around it. In the UK we have a charity called the PDSA which can help, if you live in another country then you need to investigate charities in your area.

Secondly you need to arrange pet insurance, this will ensure that any further treatment is paid for.
