Free legal consultation?

i didnt think it was 30mins - free...i thought it was 30 minutes fixed fee rate of £25...or it was a couple of years ago...and they offer you that service..in the hope that if there is a case...they will get the job. you know what solicitors are like!!

remember..if its a neighbour dispute..go to the council if its something like boundaries,buildings, fences, trees, parking, right to light etc., - dont spend money until you know that you HAVE to!

Look in the Phone Book or the LawSociety can tell you which firms in your area specialise in neighbour disputes. www.lawsociety.org.uk

That's a large field though - are your neighbours anti-social? - in which case the council can help more. Or is it something about property you own? - in which case legal aid may be hard to come by.

There are also other sources of advice, such as the CAB, Shelter etc. I'm surprised the CAB you've already seen weren't more constructive - they normally have lawyers working for them. Maybe try coming into Birmingham and trying the ones there.

Most legal firms run a free legal clinic which is basically half an hour of their time in which they should determine if your case is worth pursueing and if (when applicable) if legal aid will be available for you......unlikely in a neighbour dispute. You should be able to find out which firm provides the service by contacting each one (they are quite happy to tell you which competetive firm can help) or you could contact the legal services commission...or your local library

Just a note though...if you own your property and the dispute is relating to boundaries. ....the land registry can help you determine which bit you own (or refer to the title deeds). If the dispute relates to noise and/or distubance try your local authority

Most solicitors first consultations are free. Just 'Phone and ask your nearest office, they will advise you.
