My 18m old has a fever and is seeing something that terrifies her, it's really weird, whats happening?

My 18m old girl started a fever last night, I was lying beside her this morning, she still had a fever and was wimpering, half a sleep when all of a sudden she started up, her eyes wide, looking at something on the blank wall behind me, she screamed the most horrifid scream, raised her hands up above her head and fell back, I picked her up and tried to soothe her, she was looking all aroud the room, trembling with fear and crying her scared cry. She is not taking any meds.

What is really weird is the SAME thing happed to my now four year old son when he was 2 1/2, I took him to the doctor and the Dr. said he had never heard of that and not too worry, but my son is VERY fearful to this day

How high is her fever? This sounds like fever hallucinations to me... that's strange that your doctor hasn't heard of this...it's VERY common with high fever to hallucinate... I did all the time as a child....

This is pretty common, and I'd worry more about getting the fever down than anything she's seeing that isn't there. If she (or your son) continue to see things after the fever breaks, I would take them to a doctor (a DIFFERENT one) as that isn't normal, and my be a cause for concern.

    Hope she feels better!

I really can't understand why anyone would play around seeking advise on "ANSWERS" instead of going to a professional.

A fever is nothing to play with especially in a child. "Kakity's" answer is sound and plausible. On the outside (which I doubt) you child may be seeing ghost also.

    1. Find out what the temp is. 2. Get it down, 3. If you can't take the child to the ER. 4. Find out what is the cause of the fever and get it treated.

You need to take your baby to a doctor right away as hallucinations are a dangerous sign. If you cant get her to a doctor right away give her some eg panado syrup to bring down the fever till you can. Chances are both your kids are experiencing hallucinations when they run a high fever and whatever they imagine they see is terrifying them as they cannot understand it. You need to sit down and explain to your son what a hallucination is and that sometimes fevers can make that happen and that what he has seen is not real. But like i said get your daughter to a doctor before she has convulsions.

Young children can see things that older people can't see. When my grandson was about four years old, he saw what looked to him like big black trash bags floating around the room. It scared him when they started going through the wall into his younger sister's room. Not long after that, he saw something like a puppy running around on the floor. He wouldn't get off the bed because he was afraid of it. I was with my grandson when he saw these things. I know he didn't just make it up.

I hope telling you this will help you with your child She may not remember it when she is older.

    1) call the doctor. 2)if your dr doesn't recommend you bring your daughter there, hang up and bring her to the nearest ER. It could be that she's had a fever induced seizure. although these are USUALLY harmless, if this is not normal behavior for your daughter, she should be seen by a medical professional.

When a fever gets high they can start hallucinating. The same thing happened to my daughter. My husband actually remembers that happening to him when he was little. You need to give her something to bring down her fever. I have had the most luck with children's motrin.

Sounds like a night terror. Scary, but harmless. Do a Yahoo search for "Toddler night terror" to read about them.

Could also have been fever delusions, did you take her temp or give her anything to get the fever down?

Take her to the doctor !! Depending on how high the fever is she could have had a seizure - very dangerous.

use the baby tylenol to keep their fevers low and keep them hydrated! try not too worry or be affraid yourself you should be their comfort nad support! they llok to you. I agree with everyone who answered hallucinations it is reasonable to think that. also robutusson or simular cough suppressants have an ingredient which can casue or contribute to hallucnations so if you are using these it might be a good idea to stop. stick with the TYLENOL!
