May I respectfully ask of anti-Catholic Christians ...? (see details)?
... what, exactly, is the motivation behind posting confrontational "questions" that are really attacks against Church doctrine? You know the sort:
"Catholics! What does Matthew 6:23 mean -- call no man father?"
"Gotcha this time, CATHOLICS, read this verse!"
Not genuine questions about areas of concern, but thinly disguised preaching against the Church and contempt for its adherents.
What do you gain from this? Are you truly looking for informative responses from Catholics? Because regardless of what you get from us, your "best answer" choice always turns out to be ... surprise ... one from another anti-Catholic that affirms your bias and tells you to keep preachin' it.
I have to tell you, if your purpose is to convert people out of Catholicism, attacking and demeaning what they believe is hardly a good beginning. And in my years as an evangelical, this sort of thing was frowned upon. But we didn't have internet anonymity then, either.
Your thoughts, my brothers?
Oh, good grief. I'm not "anti"-anything. Disagreement is not the issue here. Do please read the details.
James ... I've been on the forum for a bit over a year, so I definitely know this is where anti-anything bias are expressed. I'm trying to get a sense of why a certain kind of "bashing" occurs among Christians ... and this is also the appropriate place to ask that.
Cardsfan ... thanks ... you sound like someone I'd love to have a conversation with some day, about either baseball or the Bible or both!
Tinman -- you understand perfectly.
Redneck Girl and Faustina -- thank you, dear ones!
Drew: I was glad to see you responded, your comments are always insightful and honest. I do indeed know that the vast majority of my Protestant brothers and sisters are not on the attack, and am grateful for that. Peace to you, as well, my brother.

Attacking other faiths, especially Catholicism, is something that gives protestants unity. Despite their differences in beliefs and denominations, they can always stand together and be unified in attacking the Church from whence their very roots came.
I find it very sad. Not only do they not have the fullness of Christianity, but what brings them together are vengeance and hate for what they "think" is the Catholic faith. What they are attacking is actually their own perceptions...a Catholic faith made up by the protestants, which has only ever existed in their minds.
I think actually learning about the real Catholic Church and its true teachings would be the biggest shock of their lives. Once you know what you're missing, there's no turning back!
God bless you Granny, and everyone.

I'm a Catholic convert to. I was Methodist, which usually is not of the evangelical type. But I never experienced anti-Christianity when I was a Protestant like I experience anti-Catholicism. Since becoming Catholic I find myself often defending the faith against, mostly, ignorance. Ignorance with venom.
I wish I knew why the anti-Catholicism is so strong and just what drives it. Most of the posted questions are not really questions but statements. They are inaccurate statements about Catholic beliefs, the answers posted are good and informative and yet the poster does not wish to know the truth.
Good question; but I believe that those who could answer it will not have the insight nor respect to do so.

Within some Evangelical Church's overly motivated Christians feel that they need to do some conversions of the Catholic group. They use trick questions to force the Catholics to read statements within the bible that sometimes stir debate, thinking that such an approach will cause further inquiries or resentment for the Catholic faith. Its like some Evangelicals that like to point out who is going to hell. You can't win people over by beating them over the head.
Here is where I differ. I use diaolque. I never have and never will challenge a Catholic to a bible duel. My approach is wait to be asked "why do you believe?". Then I will present my defense in such a way that the moment I see that person is uncomfortable, I back off and leave it to them to decide if they want to proceed. And never, never, ever I have told anyone Catholic, atheist, or agnostic, Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, etc., etc., etc. that they were going to hell. You see, I am not God. I am least worthy to pass judgment on another. But if they ask the question in a honest sincere way, looking for a valid question, my approach is "where do you feel you might be headed". The bible is what will judge all.
Incidently, I grew up a Catholic, my children were baptized in a Catholic Church. But on my very own and reading the bible I moved on over to the Protestant side due to my belief and interpertations. It took a few years and I am very comfortable where I stand now.

I am not anti Catholic, I am Pro Christian, and the Roman Catholic Church is anti-Christian. They place the words of the Pope over the Word of God. They pray to statues, thats Idolatry. Jesus said to pray in His name not in the name of some man/woman. They have shoddy Burial practices, baptise is from the Greek word baptiso which means submerge, Paul likened baptism to being buried with Christ, well if the Catholics biry the dead like they baptize their cemeteries are quite unsanitary indeed. It takes more than a spoon full of dirt to bury the dead. I know many Roman Catholics and many of them have asked me questions and I show them straight from the Bible (the Saint Joseph New American Bible). But I do not hate them I just believe they are wrong. Also I ask them to back their beliefs by the Bible and they can not because they are not a Biblical Christian Group.

i'm not anti-catholic, but i would guess that the motives for protestants to post anti-catholic questions are the same as they are for anti-protestant catholics. in all fairness, it does go both ways. i don't do it, personally, nor do i condone it. i'm fairly new to christianity. when i converted, i studied catholic doctrine quite a bit, and considered joining the catholic church. because of this, i actually end up defending the catholic church against such questions as ''why do catholics worship idols,'' even though i don't agree with the doctrine. i only hope that you will be able to see that while protestants definitely disagree with catholic doctrine in a lot of ways, we're not all out to attack the catholic church with a pharisaic attitude.
peace.

GRANNYOF5 *HUGS* Sadly it's just Human nature to argue over small Differences. Some Humans over come this nature others do not. It honestly makes me sick i don't see why all of us can't just love & respect others for who they are.. All people seem to want is to pick each other apart. It's got to a point where I all most hate being around other people.
There is a good example of what i am talking about. (this is my point of view)
One group dislikes me & gives me mean looks because I am a homemaker(they look at me like I am sub-human or some thing ), another group dislikes me & looks down on me because I am a Redneck(this group thinks I'm dumb all because I speak differently ROFL I really should tell them my IQ ) , another group thinks I'm hell bound because I love guns & carry one with me most of the time for protection . And some dislike me because I am Catholic these usually tell me about how I am sinning & if I don't accept Jesus I am going to hell.(Hmmm trying to convert a Christian to Christianity, no comment on this one) (Note I am not gripping I am simply using this as a example, because it goes to show that you can not please people) Don't let it get to you granny & it's best not to take it personally(even though it is hard not to) It's Just Human nature. *HUGS*
Thankfully not all people are like this, there are some people( from all walks of life) who are kind & respectful.
I hope this helps to answer your question, I now I am about to get a lot of thumbs down but this is only what I have found to be the truth. God bless you *HUGS*

As a Catholic, I am finding that I am defending my faith more and more as I get older. I'm not quite sure why that is. I am tired of telling people that we don't worship saints, that we are the original Christians, that the Catholic Church is the Church that Jesus Christ Himself founded, and that child molesters come from ALL walks of life and aren't clustered in the priesthood. When you explain the truth to them, most of them gloss over it and continue to spout off more atrocious misconceptions about our faith. My husband has converted to Catholicism. His entire family has and that included his father and grandfather who were ministers of the Church of Christ. They preached hatred towards Catholics. Once they rationally learned the truth about our religion, they couldn't ignore the facts. I think that most people only hear what they want to hear. They tune out when you tell them that the things they are saying aren't true about your religion's beliefs. They want to believe that a religion they have invested their time and trust to, is telling them the absolute truth. People don't like change and they don't like to admit they could be wrong, for the most part. So it's easier to keep perpetuating the same myths over and over again.
So, when people attack the Catholic Church, it just makes me stronger and more at ease in defending my faith. I have learned so much more about myself and my religion as a result. I welcome questions about the Catholic Church and I am happy to set the record straight. I try remember that those people just have been brainwashed into believing the things they believe about our Church.

Let me tell you that Catholics are not the only people that are picked on for their theology. Try being a Spirit filled believer who speaks in tongues and interprets tongues. But you are correct in that most questions like that, that are put in that way , are strictly to induce an argument from someone who just searches scripture for arguments sake.

I am not a Catholic. I attend Baptist church and I once was a hard core Baptist only thumper. I have read some bit of world history and Christian history and my view on things are much different. Now I even dissagree with alot of what my own Baptist group says. Right now I am at work with 3 Catholics and a Mormon and I don't make it a point to criticize their views. There are many things about the Catholic belief system I do not agree with but I can have conversations about God, Jesus and the Bible with any Catholic and agree with much of what the Catholic says. If you wanted someone to convert you out of Catholicism....TRUST ME....I could do it....However like I told my Mormon buddy at work, if you are content with your faith and it is a family faith and you have no desire to ever change or convert...I will not ever bother you nor will I try to convert you.

Yes you are on the right truck, you are just a bout to join your so called fundamentalist's,it is the doing of God,some day soon you are going to taste this by your self. There are things you learn best by experiencing them. I once used to question and defend my religion like you do,but one day the light and revelation of the Gospel of the kingdom shone in my heart and I was never the same again, please get the mind and plan of God from Jeremiah 31 and it shall be well with you.
