How do you deal with nasty co-workers and bosses that don't see it?
I work with a lady that is so vindictive and bossy to everyone.
She has the "my way or now way" mentality. The only person in the office that can likes her is the boss. And he genuinely likes her. The rest of us tolerate her. She is always going behind people's backs and sabotaging every situation. Our boss doesn't see it. He sees everything through rose colored glasses and doesn't see the bad in her. His family and her family get together outside of work as well. He has a problem being her boss because he is also her friend. How do you deal with this entire situation?

well you could find a new job, but since that probably isnt the advice your looking for, why dont you go above your bosses head, to whoever is in charge of your boss. the conflict of interest that your boss is showing is called favoritism, and is unnacceptable in the workplace. if at first your bosses boss doesnt get what your talking about, then make it aparent that everyone feels this way and that if they dont do something about it everyone is gonna find a different job. that should motivate your bosses boss to get to the bottom of it. you also could always go the route of discrimination, saying you are being discriminated against since you arent the friend of the boss, which is illegal. or you could go the harrasment route, which is very easy since its perception based, and i see that your perception is that she thinks she is the king **** of your office/workplace.
Best advice though is to not worry about it, eventually everyone gets what they deserve.

If you have met with your boss regarding this, has she suggested having a meeting with this co-worker to iron things out? Are there performance issues where she thinks that you are a threat to her position and her goals? There are times where jealousy comes into play with women and they find ways to sabotage other women who they believe are in their space. If your boss doesn't want you to quit then maybe she is pleased with your performance. Try to use that as leverage. Do you have to work the same shift as the other worker? Do you have any proof of what is being said other than here-say? If I were in your position, I would document every single reported issue and note the facts as you have them. Remember to remain factual and non-emotional when speaking to the issues presented. Then I would look for another position or ask your boss how you proceed with the uncomfortable work situation. Her behavior can be perceived as creating a hostile work environment which can be taken to HR if it is consistently documented between you and your boss. Make your own log of events, confront the co-worker with your boss, and remember always stick to the facts and offer solutions to cure the situation to your boss. Your boss would likely enjoy hearing ways in which to solve the problems at hand instead of just bringing them a problem. Good Luck.

You could always turn the tables and design a scheme of your own to sabotage something she is working on so that she screws it up so bad your boss will be forced to notice. You want it to cost the company enough money so that it won't completely break the company, but will really sting.
Another idea would be to accuse her of sexual harassment. The fact that it would be another woman accusing her of that will add another level of humiliation to it for her. Just be sure to have all the details worked of, and come up with some real raunchy dialog to tell HR that she said. Also, if you can work up some tears, that will seal her fate. Heck, you might even be able to parley it into a couple of days off to recover from your trauma.

I've been in your shoes many times. My advice to you is to do you work as best as you can, KEEP YOUR PERSONAL MATTERS TO YOURSELF (don't even tell anyone what you are going to do on the weekend), keep advancing your education and skills, and look for another job. Unless you have your own business, there may always be a bad apple in the office that will make life HELL for everyone else. Be sure to believe that your supervisor and your coworker are in this thing together. Don't believe that he does not see it. He just wants you to think that he doesn't. It's the game of life in the office.

Unfortunately, that situation is impossible to remedy. You'll either have to live with it and try to find a way to get her and/or the boss on your side, or find a new job.
What you are seeing is exactly why large, progressive companies have rules about managers allowing relatives or other loved ones to work in their department.

If you aren't the only one then everyone should file a grievance against this person. If you are the only one with the grievance than you learn to accept her or move on.

I find a new job.
Nothing is going to change as long as he is in charge. Without upper mgt support, you've got no place to go.
