Because, independent women are some times more stupid than smart. Independent women can be manipulative and intimidating. Most men, such as my self, can't tolerate manipulation or intimidation, and want to be the ones who are in charge and manipulate, for many reasons, including the prevent being manipulated. We men, like women who are a little independent, but not very independent. Some times such women can only be found in other countries. Easy going is always best! But independent or not, if you ask a guy to take charge, you better let him take and let him be in charge, or you'll regret it. No, men aren't always as simple or easy as women think. Like most things, a certain balance is ideal. If a girl is completely independant of her boyfriend, the boyfriend worries that she's just going to leave him when she gets bored, or over some insignificant argument. If she's too dependant, it can definitely get very annoying and make us want to leave. Besides, guys like to feel important. It's a big ego boost.

i'm very independent too. i had a hard time with relationships, but it got easier as i got older. seems like the men i dated grew weary of women looking for a meal ticket. but, men still need to feel needed, hence the need for chivalry (let a man open the door, pay for the check, drive to the destination, carry heavy things even when you can do it too, do yard work, grilling, etc).
