Is there a story behind why you named you children a certain name?

Please share them with us.

Benjamin Marcus is my first son. We loved the name Benjamin after we heard it on "Growing Pains' sitcom. Marcus is his Great grandfathers middle name on mother's side.

Brant Montour is second son. Brant is my family Indian name and Montour is his father's family indian name. he unfortunately was stillborn.

Alexander David.... He was supposed to be a girl per ultra sound.. then he was born. We had to pick a name so we went through a baby name book and my ex picked out Alexander ( We call him Zander, a name a cousin of mine was named) and David for my Doctors name.

Olivia Abigail... well Olivia the name was with me from the first pregnancy so we kept it until the last baby was born. we went back and forth with Emily Adele and Olivia Grace...even thought about Jocelyn..... but decided on Abigail becasue that is what my mom was going to name me.

Update:

these stories are awesome !! keep them coming!!!

My children Benjamin and Lilian were named because they are both very dignified names with cute nicknames (Ben and Lily) Ben's middle name is Michael, my father-in-law's name, and Lily's middle name is Ruth, my sister's name, my late aunt's name, and my husband's late Grandmother's name.

FYI: Ben was also a girl per ultra-sound

John William - he is named after his dad and is a "third". We call him Jack after his grandpa - the 1st John William

Tara Lynn - Tara was the 1st Gaelic name we could agree upon (got to T in the baby book!) and Lynn is my mom's middle name

Caroline ??? - the baby I am carrying now will be named Caroline. My husband and I love the state of North Carolina and he called one day and said "How about Caroline?". The name Charlotte has been a favorite of mine since high school but since I plan to live in or around Charlotte NC some day I don't want to name my child that - it's not the source of the love of the name. However the name Charlotte is derived from the name Caroline so Caroline is more perfect than before. Also my grandma's middle name is Carolyn and her grandmother's name was Caroline so there is some family history. Bought a baby book today to find that "power" middle name my husband is looking for!

my son's name is Gabriel Alexander. My husband and I didn't know the sex until he was born and since we were having trouble deciding on a boy's name, that was the only first and middle name we could agree on. I am not religious but have always liked the name Gabriel and Alexander was the only name I liked to go with Gabriel. If we have a second child the girl's name we have picked out is Jordyn Mackenzie-Lynn and for a boy Jackson Lawrence. The girl's name I like the name Jordyn and Mackenzie but Lynn is for a good friend of ours. My husband liked the sound of it altogether when I first told him when I was pregnant with Gabe. Jackson is a family surname on my paternal grandmother's side and Lawrence is me father's middle name, so I chose that in his memory. I lost my father when I was 17 and I thought it was a nice thing to do to help keep his memory alive and kickin. I had the name Mackenzie Lynn for my alternate if Gabe was born a girl, I had decided to keep it in my top list of name choices until my sister-in-law gave birth to Mckenzie Taylor July 2 so having a daughter Mackenzie and a neice Mckenzie would be too confusing especially since they are close family.

  • I named my son Brent because I happen to like the name and when I hear the name it usual has to do with a peaceful person. His middle name Dayton I got from the street.

My other son Devin because I also like this name and my husband wanted the middle and Matthew so it went well together.

My daughter HAnna was named after my grandma anna there birthday or 5 days apart and her middle name Renee was what my husband found in a baby name book and liked the way it went with Hanna. Also it's my cousin middle name

First of all, I love the name Olivia so good choice!

My oldest son is Shawn Kaden. We went through name book after name book and finally decided that we liked the names Shawn (spelled that way too.) and the name Kaden, and then after talking to my aunt (who had one of her sons die from sids when he was 6 months old and I happened to be the babysitter) she had said OH MY GOSH, my son would have been Shawn if my ex would have let me name him that, and she didn't have to say anything more, and so my son became Shawn Kaden.

My second son Xander Kai got his name because he too was supposed to be a girl. We had a girls name picked out for him and everything (Lillia Geraldine) and about 2 days before I went into labor I was like, well what if we have a boy, then what are we going to name him? And my husband said I like the name Xander Kai, and here's me thinking well, its not going to be a boy so name it telephone if you want to! and sure enough out came Xander Kai!

My daughter is Lillia Geraldine. She is named after my husbands and my grandmothers. We took the first three letters of my grandma Lillian's name and the last three letters of my grandma Cordelia's name, and so came Lillia, and then Geraldine is my husbands grandma's name. I love it, I think it is such a beautiful name. Well, there you go, that's my story!

When I was in high school I went on a road trip up the west coast(Seattle to San Fran Cisco) with my boyfriend's family. One of the things we saw were the giant redwood trees. We were all in awe of their beauty and I thought their name, Sequoia, was the most beautiful name also. We decided to name our daughter Sequoia, if we ever had one. Well that was high school and we both moved on, but I sometimes wonder if he has a little girl named Sequoia just like I do.

    1st son - Derick Anthony

I fell in love with the name Derick with the odd spelling after seeing it on television. Anthony just sounded cute with it.

    2nd son - Christian William

His Daddy picked had Christian picked out long before he was old enough to have children, so how could I say no? William is his Daddy's middle name.

The little girl in my belly - Abigale Danette

Again, her Daddy has always wanted an Abigale. Danette was my mothers middle name. She past away just a few months ago.

a million. i think of timelessness is amazingly significant while naming a baby. and that i accept as true with what you purely suggested, i comprehend i'd make of venture approximately their age in line with their call. 2. My favorites many times fall into: e) undying Names: Names that have been in use fairly continually for the final one hundred years and would't be dated to a particular decade. (examples: Elizabeth, Katherine, Miriam, Rachel, Caroline, Lydia, James, William, Victor, Samuel, furnish) 3. Worst decision for a baby: f) Oddball Names: Names that are so uncommon they are able to't sense accepted of any era and to that end have many of the timelessness of the class above. (examples: Demetria, Rosamund, Evadne, Gawain, Abdiel, Piers) ?

After days of disagreeing on names for our new baby girl

the nurse walks in and says" you must decide on a name today before you leave." My husband looks out the hospital window and saw a billboard for Kelsey Seybold Clinic, tuns and says," How about Kelsey?" Her middle name Michelle came from the middle name of my two closest friends.
