Please explain television types to me - in basic terms?

I am going to look at televisions. I have no clue what is the difference between HDTV, plasma, projector TVs etc. Does the size get to be a problem with any of these? Better value for one than the other? What lasts the longest? You don't have to name brands, but feel free if you like. I am a dummy when it comes to this stuff! Thanks!

I would SUGGEST a visit to a TV store first....LOOK at the physical size you want in your home. Then we'll talk about Reliability....

But for starters....LCD FLAT PANEL for wall hanging.....

CRT Projection if you want it to stand all by itself....

DLP for a TV you want to sit on a stand.....

That is about as BASIC as I can get, without overloading your brain....

But you can trust these suggestions to be the best choices for your needs.....

Now go......look at them yourself and see what YOU like...

Source(s): Over 24 years servicing most brands of TV......

The main things to look at when buying a new t.v. are resolution, contrast ratio, and the imputs. The higher resolution will make for more detail. The contrast is the difference between the blackest blacks, and the brightest colors shown on the screen. If the contrast were high enough it would appear to you as if you were looking into a room when you looked at your t.v. In short it makes it look better. And make sure it has a NTSC tuner and ATSC tuner that way the t.v. can accept signals from any cable source. Anyways check out the guide at bestbuy.com for more information. I could go on forever, it's complicated.
