The best home security companies are not the national ones; they are usually the local or regional ones. That being said, ADT is probably one of the better national ones. I sometimes compare ADT to Denny's Restaurants, both of which are national companies. Certainly not the best restaurant in town, but not bad, reasonably priced, and fairly consistent throughout the country. The same can be said for ADT.

I would avoid doing business with Brinks. They are primarily a sales and marketing driven company and don't provide good value for the consumer in my opinion.

I would suggest you get at least three quotes, maybe one from ADT, and a couple from local or regional dealers. You might want to take a look at the security yard signs or decals around your neighborhood to see which company does a lot of work in your area.

Be sure to get references and check them.

Everyone I know uses ADT and have had good reports about them. My mom's neighbor, however, had a guy break in with a knife and rob her. She didn't get hurt physically, but it was quite traumatic since she is elderly. ADT never responded to the alarm. So, lots of people with good reports and one bad example from a small town home. I hope this helps you make a decision. Really, if I had to choose, I'd choose either ADT or Brink's security. Problem is the Brink's security isn't as "popular" and so I don't know anyone who has them. I just know they're a big company.

We have had ADT for over 10 years in a large home and have been extremely happy with them. I also had them in my prior house and was also happy with their products and service.

egads i work for one of them....anyways the best place i would say is one that has LOCAL dispatchers......in otherwords one that actually might be within 200 miles of where you live! Many have dispatch centers in states around the country but not even near you .
