This is a corrupted MBR (master boot record)

The fix is straightforward if your XP is genuine.

    Take your XP CD

    Put in hard drive

    Restart PC

PC should boot from CD (takes a while to load the OS to memory)

Once you reach the options screens you want repair console

In repair console (looks like a c: prompt) you want to type

    FIXMBR

This is the Fix Master Boot Record command. It will give you a warning message and ask you if you are sure - say yes.

It will then rebuild your MBR and should give you a lacklustre message to say that is complete.

Now remove CD - type exit and it should reboot (if it doesn't reboot then simply switch on and off)

Now when you boot your PC all should be well.

Don't take any notice of Drew Monda - doing what they suggest will wipe your drive - silly child.

The re-install suggestions will probably work - but it is the proverbial hammer to crack the nut.

Need more info. What are the specs of the system? What OS? Do you have a hard drive installed?

Find your Operating system CDs and reinstall the Windows (assuming that it is a Windows system) by booting from CD.
