What to do when my acrylic nails start growing out?

I recently got acrylic nails for a wedding and now have had them for about a month now. They have started to grow out and I don't like the way they look. Since this is my first time getting them done, I have no idea what to do with them. I really don't want to go to a salon to fill them in.

I was thinking about cutting the nail shorter and filing it down and just apply nail polish over it to hide the gap. I really have no idea what to do. It's either that or just removing them, but I'm scared about how ugly or weak my nails are going to be if I remove it.

Any suggestions?????? thanks a bunch =)

You are going to have to remove them at some point and it woul dbe better to do it now, soak them in an acetone solution and then ease them off, or you could just get a thick clear nail polish and do a "poly filler" on them, but it really is best to maintain them at the salon or take them off!!

You can either get a fill or take them off. You can also go to a nail place and they can take them off for you. Since you've only had them on for a month, your nails shouldn't be to weak. If you decide to take them off, go buy pure acitone or nail polish removal w/ in it in. You're going to have to soak them for about an hour and keep getting the acrylic off. You could try filing them down but that may take some time since I don't know how thick the acrylic is. I hope this helps.

if you went to a discount salon to get them done and paid like 25 dollars, yea, your nails are prolly damaged. DONT RIP THEM OFF, cuz that will make the damage worse. to take them off, soak them in acetone nail polish remover(its not bad for you, thats a myth) for a good 40 min. after you take them out of the liquid, use an orangewood stick, or your keeys or something and slide them off. if they are not sliding off, soak them for another 20 minutes or so. after they are off, buff them ver very lightly to get the residue off, then use a ridgefiller, a nail hardener, polish, and a top coat... keep doing this every week, and add another top coat every 3 days. then your nail will grow out and be healthy again, plus you learned a valuable lesson: dont go to a discount salon, and dont get falsies unless you want them for a while. next time you go to an event, ask for party nails.. they glue on the tips, and it doesnt damage your nails

Go to the salon and get a fill. while you are there tell them you want a cut down, and if you want designs or anything let them know and they will give you whatever you want.

It may be cheaper to do it yourself (it costs about 10-13 dollars to get a fill where i live) but the results are so much better when you go to a salon that its worth the 13 bucks not to waste your time.

Source(s): I go to the nail salon every two weeks.
