Anyway to trace where an e-mail comes from?

A friend of mine and his wife have been getting harrased by someone over their e-mail.

Apparently this person knows them pretty well, from the stuff they are saying, and the name that comes up on the e-mail is his wife's maiden name, but she says it isn't her and they don't know who it is.

I don't think there's any way to trace this, but I figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

Anyone have any ideas?

    Yeah I do !

A lady aproached me in my computer security class I teach and the cops really found them and stopped it.

Tell them to keep the emails in their email box ..

there are companies that can trace it . sounds corny i know but on law and order they have cops that do that so that's how i know, even some computer people who fix computers.

another way is if there is a link that shows ' full headers ' on it like yahoo does.

their ip address will be on it.

    go to http://visualroute.visualware.com/

to see if it says where it is .

best thing is to call around to see if anyone knows how to trace like the police, they have units that do it .

    umm ...

here is a link of sites ..

    http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=how+to+trace+...

the sponsored links are good sites, even if you have to pay for it.

have them print out the emails with the full headers , to show the police if you choose them the evidence . And send the copies to another email address like yahoo to keep a copy incase it gets deleted.

    ummm ...

this is what i use ..

    http://www.emailtrackerpro.com/

part of my job is tracking emails for people and it is pretty good.

and if you know someone who hacks to help people that is a good way, they'll know for sure . Best way is to go to the local police , they know how to trace it and they can get things going like stopping them by approach .

I hope that helps , i've been doing all this since 1996 .

Let me know how it goes ,.. or if you need further assistance.

on my profile you can reach me .

    Good luck !!

Yes, there are ways to trace e-mails but it isn't the simplest or most obvious thing. For an overview of how to do so go to:

Snail mail might probable be a greater decision; you do not could incorporate touch info and might desire to sort it up on the computer and then print it out. I doubt they are going to attempt and track you down by utilising fingerprints or by utilising your printer and might have a not basic time besides, i'm particular...
