Why do xtians always think we atheists "reject" god?

I mean, after all, how can you reject something you don't even believe exists? By saying what they do, xtians are implying that atheists [even agnostics] once knew god and now rejects him. Which is just not true.

Update:

Suzanne: I know the correct spelling... :)

Update 2:

Dire Badger & Seeker: Yes, I suppose it is symmantics and splitting hairs but you made the point that atheists reject any concept of deity, we do not reject god specifically.

Update 3:

Sassinya: thanks for the dictionary clarification! :)

Update 4:

Earl D: Maybe I should have phrased my question differently. I am not closing my mind to such a possibility. I am not afraid to say I reject god, just as I'm not afraid to say I reject Zeus and Pan and Isis, etc. It think its the manner in which christians phrase it, as if we knew god and then deliberately rejected god as person. Hmm, maybe I'm not making my thoughts clear enough...

Update 5:

iron_serpent91: Evolution is unlikely? That is pure rubbish. Evolution is proven, why won't Christians accept it? And FYI, I've read the whole bible, including the books which aren't included such as Book of Enoch.

Because you reject the idea of a god... and they can't tell the difference?

They seem to believe somehow that their notion of belief in a god is natural.... as opposed to the complete agnosticism that human cubs are generally born with... They just have their perspective a bit scewed.

Like an previously answerer, i'm a Brit, so it does not impression me too lots. i think of in thought that is incorrect, because of the fact it enables those with a definite god to sell to push the thought their deity-of-decision is uniquely extra desirable with the aid of the US government notably others - and of direction to ***** that that is being 'bumped off' from government every time this concern comes up, pushing the thought it has an prolonged background on the middle of the nationwide identity than the 50 or so years that is definitely been there. yet because of the fact the different Brit reported, in any rational us of a, the symbols on the money should not be overanalysed as inferring a belonging to a attitude - the Queen's on the £10 notice i exploit, yet i'm not approximately to sing God save The Queen. In essence, i think of there are extra pressing battles against the encroaching attain of religion-based paradigms, in coaching, employment, and non-city society as an entire. So that is not possibly a "despite" concern, yet extra of a "later" concern.

It's not really god they think you reject, it's Christianity.

Most of them were raised without options of religious choice...they could move within their faith tradition, but not outside of it.

The Christian assumption is often that atheists have left Christianity for atheism, and that's the rejection they so loathe.

Now, while I am not currently an atheist, I was born one, and was one through my childhood, and I can say that both then and now, as a polytheist, I did not REJECT the Christian god, I just never saw any reason to ACCEPT him.

You need to have an education in logic to know the difference between accepting a null hypothesis and rejecting a hypothesis.

When you deny the existance you reject it. That's a self-evident fact.

To deny something until it can be PROVEN not to be, is rejection.

They still have not TOTALLY disproven the Aether concept. It is largely in disrepute and rejected by many who say "they don't believe in the Aether" but if someone PROVES the Aether, those people will look like Flat Earthers or they will have to ACCEPT the concept.

Modern String theory is just another look at the Aether concept.

Space would be made up of strings, hence space has a form of Aether.

The funny thing is the math for the Big Bang theory was used to describe "fluid motion."

Hence the universe and space was being looked at as if it were a fluid.

So we keep getting back to that Aether concept.

God is like the Aether and Strings.

Gonna be hard to prove. Going to be easy to falsify. Going to be impossible to disprove altogether conclusively.

To deny the existance of the Aether, leaves you open to the possiblity that if SOMEONE proves it, you look foolish for NOT having an open mind.

To deny the existance of God follows the same logic.

You're just afraid to say you Reject God, which means you have some trepedations.

If God does come at End of Times ATHEISTS will be forced to admit they were totally wrong as class of people.

FOr those who don't accept God, but don't deny the possiblity of one, all they have is I made the wrong decision on the matter.

I am an atheist too.And i know that this “god” doesn't exist and i won't change my opinion, even if someone try to convince me of the opposite…

Atheists don't "reject” “god”, then why would they reject something that doesn't exist? It's impossible.

Sincerely, when was a teenager i already had doubts of “god" existence, but still I tried to believe again, serious. But it didn't work and i decided to accept that "god" doesn't exist, and that was the best decision i made in my life. And that's what I did...and i am happy, very happy...being an atheist...

Source(s): Sorry for my english... And i never knew, felt or saw "god"...never.

There's this Bible verse (Romans 1 I think) that effectively says everyone has knowledge of God through his natural creation, and so we are "without excuse". Basically, this must have made it in the book following a conversation that probably went something like this:

Believer: Why don't you worship God?

Atheist: I don't believe he exists.

B: But you are rejecting Him!

A: How can I reject what doesn't exist?

B: But everyone KNOWS God exists... look around!

    A: I don't.

B: Yes you do! *note to self: tell the scribe to work that into Romans somehow...*

Atheists reject God by ignoring the evidence supporting His existence.

You know yourself how unlikely it is that life evolved, but rather than admit that life must therefore have been created, atheists believe life must still have evolved because they assume God does not exist. They may claim to be objective, but are objective only when it suits them.

    ----------

Or maybe they wish God did not exist so much that it clouds their thinking. It seems that for any scientist to be taken seriously, he or she cannot express any belief in a creator. The laws of the Universe and basic biology scream 'creation' and 'design'.

The Bible also shows clear evidence of inspiration. Atheists ignore the Bible and only ever read to take scriptures out of context. They therefore reject God.

If you don't believe something exists, some universal concept, then you reject it. You don't have to believe in it first to reject it, you just reject the principle that has been alive and well since the dawn of man. It's something that has been here before you arrived, so since it came first, you rejected it. Afterall, atheism is a belief in rejection. That's what the "a" is doing in front of "theism"

I think it is more of a feeling of a rejection of the person more then thier reliogion. religion is a means of Identifacation to most social groups. Like of it like this. someone that don't relate to you because you don't nessicarily agree with what they agree with. Christians (or Xtians ~ I find that funny) are more personal with thier religion and they see it as since you don't believe in God, the god that is in thier heart and rules thier world, then you don't beileve in their life style. I guess I am starting to restate myself, but I hope my thought is coming across right.

  • Correct me if i am wrong but i thought atheists do not believe in god . If i am right, if he does not exist then then you surely must reject his existence.
