Fitting a shower?
I currently only have a bath in my bathroom and its driving me mad i long to have a good shower. Roughly how much would it cost me to have a electric shower fitted over my bath? i know an electrician but dont know any plumbers. I take it i need both?
Also i rent my house from a family member do you think it is down to me or them to pay for it?
im in the uk by the way!
Is it unreasonable to ask my nan (who i rent from) to pay for it. She has three house so plenty of income!
omg someone said i should fit it myself! he he! I think id prob electricute myself!
Im assuming pipes would have to be added to the current pipe work for the bath!
I dont really mind paying but as its not my house i would be improoving the house for some one else to benefit in the long run!

It would be normal for the landlord to pay for essentials such as a shower, however since it's your nan maybe going 50/50 would be a good compromise.
You're probably looking at a few hundred quid for installation. This may sound a lot seeing as electric showers themselves are usually no more than £100, but you need to get the wiring installed by a qualified electrician as there will be a few safety widgets that need installing due to inherent dangers of electricity and water.

The price will depend on the make and model of electric shower you want, they can vary from £50 to a few hundred pounds. Labour depends a lot on which part of the country you live in. Wether or not you need an electrican and plumber is down to who you get to do the job, some electricans can do both and some cant or wont. They will tell you when you get a quote. Make sure they are registered to do electrical work. Who pays is up to the landlord i suppose, if their nice they will pay as it's an investment on the property, it's worth asking, they can only say no.

The landlord is under no obligation to pay for this.
I assume that the house was like this when you moved in, therefore you accepted that the house was habitable.
The landlord would not be able to right this off against tax as is is considered to be an improvement, not just maintenance.
Why would the landlord want to pay for this?
Given the fact its your Gran, that puts a different light on things. Try to persuade her, not tell her its her problem, you might get a better response.
To install, you would be looking in region of £200-300 ( dependent on price of shower you wanted )

The plumber probably didn't bother to install a "t" with riser to absorb the pressure in the line. The usual way to install a line is at the junction where the line turns and goes into the faucet, they will install a "t" fitting and about 12" to 18" of pipe, verticle to the turn and cap. This dead end pipe will absorbe any change in pressure and stop the noise you hear. Unless you're good at sweat soldering copper pipe, this is best left to a plumber, and since you do not accept e-mail, it will be hard to instruct you on the process.

£200.00 should cover the cost of the shower and fitting. I agree that you should pay for it as it isn't a neccessity, however you do have a point that it will be an improvement. Why don't you ask your Gran if she will go halves with you. It seems like a reasonable compromise to me.

I would talk to who owns your house and see if you can both come up with a plan maybe each pay half of what it will cost and see if that would work in getting it done quicker.

there are rules and reg's to follow, so look for a plumber who has part p testing ticket. its ok doing it yourself but you need to know what cable size etc. talk to nan she might pay for you, but its not her problem, you got a means of washing and it was like that when you got there.

Its a luxury for yourself so the payment should be down to you not your landlord. Get a DIY book at fit it yourself!

Comparitively, electric showers are crap.
Consider a pumped or gravity-fed shower instead.
