Someone please explain to me what exactly is a terabyte?
what is its official size and can you give me some idea of the "amount" of information that would be for instance 1-1/2 average length novels. Thanks

The value of a terabyte is based upon a decimal radix (base 10) and is defined as one trillion (short scale) bytes, or 1000 gigabytes.
The National Archives of Britain, which hold 900 years of written material, contains more than 580 terabytes of data

1000 gig (gb) is a terabyte
cdroms are 0.65 of a gig
standard dvds are 4.7 gig
so very roughly 200+ dvds
there are slight discrepancies as 1 gig is 1024 meg (mb) and 1 meg is 1024 k (kb) but you get the idea

A treabyte is basically like a LOT of info example
1024MB=1GB
and 1TB=1024GB
so if your Hard drive is like 200GB, it only needs like 824GB more for a tera
so, if you have movies on your computer for the most part you can fit almost 1000 movies, too many songs and files and almost 100+ online games like WoW or SWG
point is ALOT of stuff, so no more memory needs (unless it blows up or something)

A Terrabyte is 1024 Gb.
A Terrabyte is 1048576 Mb (If my math is right)
It could possibly hold about 130 Dual Layer dvd's.

its huge... massive... not talking novel length anymore...
talking book store amount not a shelf in the book store...
well they put encyclopedia sets onto cd's (700mb) so you can do the math
1tb = 1024 gb
1gb = 1024 mb
1cd = 700mb
