How would I quit my summer job so I can get re-hired after cross country ends?
Okay. I have a small problem. I work at Zeppes Pizzeria, and I love it. I just started about 2-3 weeks ago. However, I am in cross country, and I just found out that I will not have any time whatsoever for my job, because I just got my cross country meet schedule for the school year. I would just quit, but I would like to quit in a way that I can leave on a good note with the manager and so I can possibly come back to the job after cross country ends. How would I quit my job, while leaving the opportunity to be re-hired when cross country ends? 10 points to best answer and if you live near me I'll buy you an 8-cut pizza too. Oh and if this helps, I am going to be a junior in high school and this was my first job.

Talk to you boss. Explain that you really like the jobs but you just found out about the schedule. This way they don't ask why you didn't know earlier. Let them know when you will be finished and tell them you would really like to come back at that time. Of course there is no guarantee because they may not have any availabilities at that time. But if your a good employee you have a chance. Make sure you give a 2 week notice.
Good luck - both with the job and cross country.

Tell him what you just told us. Be honest. Let him know how much you enjoy working for him but you just found out that school obligations will not permit you to continue working there. I hope you are able to give him sufficient notice so he can find a replacement. And let him know you really want to come back to work for him when cross country ends. Give him the facts. It will be his choice...he has to do whatever is best for his business.

If you are a good employee, they will have no problem letting you come back after your athletic schedule allows. Be honest with them.
