Am I the only person absolutely sick of this ipod/iphone cult?

Originally, the portable apple multimedia products were rather superior to all competition; however, I think now they are inferior, which is why I am so annoyed to see people camping out and cheering as they acquire their cool iphone.

I personally think all that nonsense would be more understandable if the product were unquestionably superior to the competition. Anyways, who feels like I feel regarding this?

I personally find anything with the Apple brand on it to be completely over-rated.

Let's start with the Macs. This whole thing that they don't get blue screens of death is technically true, they get a GREEN screen. I've used enough Macs to know that they aren't immune to system crashes like Apple would have you believe. As for there not being a lot of viruses for them, again this is true but not because they are secure. There aren't many viruses for them because it would be a waste of time for the virus writers to attack them since only about 5-10% of the computer using public world-wide uses a Mac.

Now the iPod, worst of the major MP3 players on the market, completely and totally over-rated and over-priced. Most of the features that come standard on the other players the vaunted iPod needs a peripheral addon to have. These are things such as a radio, voice recorder, and an alarm clock. then there's the truth about their so called dependability. There is a known flaw that has been around since Apple first started to manufacture the blasted things that causes them to lockup needing repair and they have yet to correct this problem. This has been going on for 6 years. Also if you want more proof of how bad their dependability is look around here and you'll notice that the problems people have with iPods are way out of proportion when compared to the other major brands. The last major problem I have with the iPod line is their dependability on iTunes. Without it an iPod is just a fancy paperweight. I also don't get the whole "cool factor" of the iPod as I think they're ugly.

Now for the incredibly over-rated and over-priced iPhone. These are not the great technical advancement Apple would have one believe and I would rather have a phone like the T-Mobile Sidekick or similar which has a true keyboard and not a touch screen. I personally hate touch screens. I can't stand having fingerprints on a screen that I'm trying to read data from or watch a movie on. Then there's the fact that the stupid things phone chips are 1, 2, and even 3 generations behind because Apple instead of waiting for the new chips and postponing the release date had to rush the things to the market. This has caused people in certain areas to not even be able to get a signal to use the phone function and yet they have still been billed for it. That brings us to the fees themselves. You can't get a proper package deal for the phone's features, ie texting, internet, ect. This makes the bill itself in some cases the size of a small novel. There was even a case in the Pittsburgh, Pa area where someone's bill had to be delivered in a box as it was 600+ pages long. This is totally ridiculous and uncalled for.

All of the hype over Apple's products are due to their marketing campaigns which are probably the only actual good thing about them. they are able to convince a bunch of mindless sheep that their products while probably the worst on the market are the best and coolest. That says something about their marketing department. I on the other hand know how to think for myself and will not buy anything that says Apple on it.

Ok both the previous posters have valid points. The first post, is most of the apple crowd is buying because its apple, they know the company makes a stellar product and it is just there choice to like the companies items. I personally love macs, but ill be da**ed if im gonna pay that much for a phone that unlike what joe b is saying, is really not that "revolutionary", touch screens have been around for about 20 years, 15 to the consumer market, and apple is not the first company to make a full touch screen phone, google prada phone, that was on the market before the iphone was even announced. And its full touch screen and gsm unlocked so you are not bound to America's Cingular/At&t. Nice for those overseas. Now while the Iphone has its shortcomings, it does do the ipod thing extremely well and the screen is really top of the line as far as looks and the multi touch. Outside of that there is really nothing that great about the iphone, visual voicemail was really cool, but it is available for all windows mobile smartphones and blackberrys, newer blackberry's and windows mobile, and newer palm treos can all play media. It may not look as cool as the iphone but looking cool is hardly "Greatest technological advancment in the consumer sector in years." as joe b put it. Now while if you dont like the craze and the waste of time and money waiting in line, there are millions across the nation that agree, but at the same time there are millions that will disagree, do i love apple products, you bet they put some of the best quality products out, you pay a little more but you are definitely getting what you pay for. Would i ever wait in line for a 600 dollar phone that has no extra features i couldnt get on my blackberry, god no. But thats just it, some people to go football games cuz they like it and some people dont, thats just life, if someone wants to sit in line and wait for a 600 dollar phone that is just for the wow factor, let em. You are doing nothing but adding to the hype by getting all worked up over other people spending there money how they want. But none the less i would agree the iPhone is nothing overly special except for the wow factor, and Steve Jobs just knows how to market this stuff so its a must have to his dedicated apple followers. Hope that shed some light on this and have a good day.

iAnything is a waste to me too. Who has time or money to waste and what will they do with this product when the next one comes out? Probably throw it in a landfill.
