What's the big deal with putting the toilet seat down?

I'm a guy of course, but I just don't get why its such a big deal to put it down. If a girl left it down, I wouldn't care.

Update:

Oh, I love these answers... keep them coming. My main point is one which had been mentioned: If the seat goes down, then both seat and lid must go down. Its the only fair way. Not only does it look good, but that when, whether man or woman, the toilet user MUST be accustomed to putting the lid down. If you're a woman and you sit down without looking, that's just silly and a bad excuse for the seat going down. But overall, I believe the toilet seat, up or down, is a power struggle for many (not all), which is why such a big deal is made. Would you agree?

I'm a guy and it bother me that the seat is up. Not just the seat, I need the seat and the lid down.

But by the same token, I've never heard guy complaining about women leaving the seat down.

Women need it down so they leave it down, guys need it up so they leave it up, but guys don't camplain when women leave it down. They be adult and put it up themselves.

Why on earth would anyone not put the lid down when he's done using the toilet? Do people enjoy the sight of the inside of a toilet? Does the thought excite them that perhaps something might roll from the counter and into the bowl and they'll have to retrieve it? Men and women are both at fault for not putting down the seat AND lid!

    Big Toilet Seat

Actually, I'm a guy and I found out that even guys should want to put the seat down. I was drunk one night and had to take a crap. Well, I didn't notice that the seat was up. The next think I know my **** was wet. Of course since I was drunk I had a hard time getting out of the toilet. Would have been perfect for Youtube.

I don't know. I've never had an issue with this. I live with 3 men (my husband and 2 sons) and I don't make them lower the seat when they're finished. It's not that hard to lower it myself. What I did have a problem with was them not raising the seat and having to sit down on a wet seat. When that happens then they hear it and have to clean the whole toilet. They've learned bless them!

girls sit on the toilet seat and a man should remember this and put the toilet seat down, my hubby was notorious with keeping the seat up, till one nite i had enough of a wet behind in the middle of the nite when i wouldnt look to see if the seat was down, so i dumped the toilet water on his head and said well i have a wet butt u now have a wet head and will have one everytime u leave the seat up. needless to say it wasnt left up nomore and it is reminded with the boys as he tells them the same kind of things will happen to them if they leave the seat up. Of course i wont do it to my boys but they leave tthe seat down all the time when they are done...

I don't make a big deal out of it. I know how to look at the seat to see if its up or down, and if its up, I know how to let it down. I don't think women should make such a big deal out of it.

Apparently, the ladies don't feel obligated to look before

they sit it down -- with the seat up it's cold-butted porcelin

and maybe a wet fanny. --- Maybe the could put the seat

down themselves as easily as it can be picked up (less

likely to be wet too) wha the hay, be a gentleman and

put the cursed thing down !

Picture this: Its late. Perhaps its three in the morning. Your wife/girlfriend needs to go to use the toilet. She's more than half asleep, stumbles in to the bathroom. You are awakened by a blood curdling shreik as she totally drenches her nether regions in the cold toilet.

That is why we as thoughtful and considerate men put the seat down. So we can sleep through the night. Daytime is just practice so we can develop it as a habit.

Because they have memory lapses and forget to check that the seat is down and fall into the bowl.

I probably would be upset also..lol
