Why are concerts not on weekends anymore?

I've noticed a trend over the last few years. Concerts, whether they are at a club or an arena/stadium are held on weeknights. WTF? I have kids and a job, I can't be staying out until 3 or 4 am and go to work the next day. Not anymore, anyway. So, does anyone know why concerts aren't on weekends? Van Halen is starting their tour about 2 hours from me. Can I go? No, it's on a Thursday night. Why not Friday night or Sat? It's really starting to piss me off.

It's all about the almighty dollar, my friend! When a band goes on tour, they can't make as much money playing only weekends. Typically, the tour is arranged so that the next night's venue is relatively close to the current night and so on. If a band plays 3 or 4 gigs a week, it's more money!

I've pretty much given up on concerts. Between the ridiculous ticket prices and late night getting home to go to work the next morning, it just isn't worth it. DVDs and HDTV are making concerts obsolete.

    I KNOW!

Next week (Wednesday), I'm going to the Family Values Tour, which is a four and a half hour drive away from my home. The concert is going to end at about 10:30 or 11:00 and it's going to be 2 or 3-ish when I get back home. I have to get up at 6:00 for school, I'll be totally wiped out the next day and not to mention I'm totally missing my second day of my freshmen year of high school for this concert.

    UGGGG!

    It's worth it, I guess. =)

Mostly, the concerts will be on weekdays unless you're in a huge city. Bands like to plan tours so they get to big cities and venues on weekends and friday nights. I'm going to a huge concert on Saturday, but I've definitely missed concerts because they're on the weekdays.

It all depends on the bands schedule. It would be impossible to schedule all the shows on weekends. For as long as I've been going to concerts, its pretty commonplace for concerts to be during the week, as well as the weekend.

There are still shows on the weekend. I just saw the Decemberists at the Hollywood Bowl w/ the L.A. Philharmonic on a saturday....I'm going to a concert this weekend...

I totally hear you on that. I have been to 3 concerts past year and they were all on a work night. I try to consider if they are all touring the world it has to be hard to schedule every concert on a fri or sat. they would never finish. we just have bad luck on when they are playing near us.

cuz the bands wanted enjoy the weekend going to some concerts, but then they all did that and... (just a theory)

Because if the performer is popular enough then they'll make money no matter what night they play.
