I'm trying to get my mother to stop drinking, any suggestions?
The docotor just told her she has to quit drinking soon or she's gonna die, she's 51. He has sent her to attend detox but she refuses to go. I've tried hiding it, pouring it out, threatining to take my daughter away from her, but she just doesn't listen. I'm taking her to my friends dad's grave to show her what's gonna happen to her. I'm worried, anybody have some ideas to scare her to stop?

I suggest you go to Al Anon. The hardest lesson I ever learned in my life was I couldn't make someone do or NOT do something if they didn't want to. Crying, pleading, cajoling, or manipulating won't make her stop. She has to want to. It's terrible to watch someone do this to herself, but you can't change it. You can stop being a part of the insanity of the situation. You can take your daughter away from it, too, just as you threatened. She doesn't need to be around your mom if she's drinking. Kids are smart; they know what's going on. At this point, you need to take care of yourself. It's very hard to learn to back away from the situation. It took me a long time to learn how to disconnect myself from the alcoholic; it was such a different mindset then what I was used to. I hope you can find your way to Al Anon. Best wishes.

Unfortunately she won't stop until she finally realizes that it is killing her. There isn't much you can do besides support her and continue to help her see the consequences. Hopefully she will the harm she is doing to her body and seek help before it's too late.

I'm sorry to say this ,but the only person that can make your Mom quit drinking is ,your Mom herself ,by wanting to

She's not gonna stop until she realizes on her own that it will kill her. Sometimes people do not realize it until the liver shuts down and they die. I hope she sees that she needs to stop.

She's the only one that can make the decision. You can't do it for her.
