Chinese Shar Pei Dog?

Well my family breeds chinese shar pei's, They are very adorable, Im not sure if you can find one directly from fort bragg, but there are most likely places around there, You cant really find them in pet stores because of there price.

Chinese shar pei's tend to usually come from breeders.

They run anywere from (very very unusual to find them under $200) $200 - $2000 Depending on what you are looking for.

These are the types/ breeds.

Apricot - black muzzle/nose

Apricot Dilute - Apricot muzzle/nose

Chocolate.

Black.

Diamond ( VERY VERY VERY RARE!)

Flowered. ( mix colors )

And lilac.

Those are the basic breeds they can also come

very very detailed but i will not get into that.

So if you arent specifically looking for something special (show dog, etc.) You would best be going with a breeder for a pup, or a shar pei rescue for a special needs, or just an older dog.

If you want a specifically healthy not a lot of maintenence shar pei you should find a good breeder. i will give you some links at the bottom of this.

Some good things to look for in a shar pei is:

Has had it's eyes tact - Shar pei dogs have to have there eyes tact so that they can see because the wrinkles hang down and then the shar pei cannot see.

They should have the shots taken care of.

Neutered/Spayed - You may only find this done already if the pup is at least over 6 months any earlier may cause problems.

Well i thought i would just give you some of this info becuase if you are a millitary man/women i think you would want a dog that is not going to have problems because military people are so busy. =)

Oh and one more thing

Shar pei's tend to need a lot of care.

As they get older they may have hip problems, ear problems, and other issues as with any other type of dog. So please if the shar pei dog is not going to have a good careing home and is just going to end up in a execution shelter please save it's life and do not get one. You seem that you could take care of it though so just keep this in mind.

They also need a lot of love and quality time.

We bought 2 beautiful Shar-pei pups out of Texas.The people are retired and have had this breed for many years.We have had both sisters-both are spade.For 8 yrs,Never any health problems and they are the joy of our family.We drove to get our 2 puppies.But there son will meet you for some special deliveries.We went to there home.Its beautiful and they have the most beautiful little Mini shar-pei.I would highly recommend these people.They have a funny last name.They are either-Harabal-or Hrabal Chinese sharpei.They have a Internet site on the Shar-pei and there family.They are definately not a kennel.Just really nice people.Try to find them.or private e-mail to me.I have my Dogs AKC papers and I can give the names and addys off the papers.i will have to get the papers from our safety box.But they are really great people with the nicest little sharpei.We really enjoyed our visit with these people and fell in love with 2 puppies,so we bought both puppies.They do require you to spade or neuter your pets.The puppies are Akc and the parents live in the house.its just amazing the love and care they give there sharpei.We were very lucky to have found our precious babies.Please e-mail me,if more info is needed.Thank you and I hope you find a great puppy.Missy.

Please do thoroughly research the breed. As mentioned, they have many health issues due to the wrinkles...skin problems, problems with the eyelids (it is not uncommon for them to need surgery)...vets love the breed...they make a lot of $ Temperament is "different" (trying to be nice) too.

Check petfinder.com for local rescues. Be cautious when buying from breeders,stores or mills as these dogs have many associated health problems and when not bred properly can cost a fortune in vet bills! If your looking for a breeder, try the AKC website it will lead you to local sharpie clubs & associations that can both help you find a breeder or rescue. Good Luck! My 1st love was a sharpei!
