Currently RAM is about $40 per GB. For XP you should have 1GB, for Vista 2GB.

Disable Programs to Free Up Memory
Disable programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance using msconfig.
First: Uninstall any programs listed in "step 1"
http://www.techsupportforum.com/security-center/hi...
Run PCPitstop "full tests" and "running programs" in the results it will designate programs that can be disabled to improve computer performance. Run MSconfig and uncheck any program "that can be disabled to improve computer performance"

Low Virtual Memory
If you still see the dreaded "Your system is low on virtual memory" message then the first thing to do is make sure your computer is configured to allow Windows to automatically manage the virtual memory. In Windows XP, follow these steps:
# Click Start, then open the Control Panel.
# Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
# Click the Advanced tab.
# Under Performance, click Settings.
# Click the Advanced tab.
# Under Virtual memory, click Change.
# Under Drive [Volume Label], click the drive that contains the paging file (virtual memory) settings that you want to change. In almost every case, this will be your C: drive.
# Click to select the "System managed size" option, then click Set.
# Click OK three times and restart your computer.
When you allow Windows to manage your virtual memory, it should make the optimum amount of virtual memory available, by automatically shrinking or enlarging the paging file as needed. If that doesn't solve the low virtual memory problem, there are a few more things you can try.

Low on virtual memory is refering to the amount of RAM that is currently available. Are you running a lot of programs at the same time? That may be the problem, simple as that. Or you might be infected with a virus that is taking up all that RAM. You can check to see the amount of RAM you've got by opening task manager (ctrl+alt+del) and going to File > New Task and entering 'dxdiag' (If a prompt window pops up, it doesn't matter if you click yes or no). Good Luck

Your computer has ran out of RAM and Windows is using your hard drive as memory.
You have three options:
1. Increase the amount of virtual memory by allocating more space on your hard drive for Windows use:
Control Panel -> System -> Advanced - >Advanced Tab
2. Decrease the junk you have running on your computer.
3. Add more RAM.

CAUSE
This behavior may occur if you try to start any of the programs included in Office on a computer where the paging file value setting is too low.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this behavior, increase the size of the paging file. To do so, follow these steps as appropriate for your operating system.
Note Microsoft Office 2007 requires Windows XP or higher.
Windows 2000
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click Advanced
3. Click Performance Options.
4. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change to increase the paging file.
Windows 2000 requires an Initial value of 126 MB for debugging.
5. After you change the setting, click Set, and then click OK.
6. In the System Control Panel Applet dialog box, click OK to the following message:
The changes you have made require you to restart your computer before they can take effect.
7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.
8. When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
Windows XP
1. Click Start, right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
3. In the Performance pane, click Settings.
4. In the Performance Options dialog box, click the Advanced tab.
5. In the Virtual memory pane, click Change.
6. Change the Initial size value and the Maximum size value to a higher value, click Set, and then click OK.
7. Click OK to close the Performance Options dialog box, and then click OK to close the System Properties dialog box.

Usually running out of virtual memory means that you are running too many applications at the same time for your system or one of them is attempting to use too much memory.
Increasing virtual memory is one way of compensating for lack of RAM. However, it's optimum should be set at 1.5 times the amount of RAM on your computer. Virtual memory can be increased, but it comes with a risk if you increase it too much as it can eventually lead to hard drive damage.
To increase VM on Windows XP (should be in similar locations for other versions) look in Control Panel: System, Advanced, Performance Settings, Advanced, Virtual Memory.
You can see if your computer can handle more RAM at http://www.crucial.com/index.asp
It's important to note that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc) and malware all compete for system resources. The presence of Malware (viruses, spyware, etc) will particularly eat up your system resources so you may want to run your resident security products such as antispyware and antivirus applications to ensure that your system is clean.

digital memory has to do with your no longer easypersistent area. living house windows creates a RAM report (pagefile) on your no longer easypersistent whilst it runs low on device RAM. 64K of RAM is relatively low. you are going to be able to desire to enhance your device memory or get an even bigger no longer easypersistent. RAm could be extra perfect. Virual memory is desperate at a million.5 circumstances the quantity of put in RAM (sixty 4)

You must send a petition to Bill Gates telling him we know there is a conspiracy involving Microsoft and their operating systems' ineffectual use of random access memory and the RAM manufacturing companies who rob us of our hard earned money by selling us more memory sticks to compensate for the clumsy Microsoft programming.
edit- I see I've already received two thumbs down. But answer me this, why does windows os slow down to an unbearable sluggishness if you leave it on for more than a few days? Because they deliberately designed the os to not release RAM.
If you want a real solution besides "buy more ram" or "run less programs" you just have to find a software that releases RAM which this useless OS refuses to do simply for the profitability.

the users MLM and zeven77 have given u tips also check for Strat-->Programs-->Stratup and if there is any thing then u have to empty it by opening RUN and typing msconfig and ok then in the window that opens up then open the startup tab and uncheck them items that don't have to run on system startup(these thing run in the background and consume ram)also try to increase ur ram
- zeven77Lv 61 decade ago
you either need to increase your ram or you can try increasing your virtual memory. start -> right click on "my computer" -> properties -> advanced -> performance settings -> advanced -> virtual memory -> change -> set custom size -> click set then ok.

Virtual memory is an addressing scheme implemented in hardware and software that allows non-contiguous memory to be addressed as if it were contiguous.
