Why does the Malaysian police and the public ignore human trafficking?

I watched a recent documentary on Dateline NBC which showed young women from the Philippines offerred restaurant jobs in Malaysia only to be later told they are forced into prostitution and their passports were held...the police were aware, yet did nothing to help until exposed by the US news crew. Malaysia has the worst record in the world to convict human traffickers

Please read my answer in this post:

It is related to the case that you have mentioned, involving human trafficking, drugs and prostitution. However, in the case that I've brought up, it was due to the fact that we HAVE information on the culprits involved but now, we are being under constant threats by both the hooligans involved and the POLICE!

So, to answer WHY does the Malaysian police ignore human trafficking?...

The police are indirectly involved, as they are being paid to shut up and do their work as ordered by those hooligans. The public, on the other hand, are too quick to forget (which is one of the reason why we have yet to highlight our case to the press, as to date).

ASP Karish Kaur of the Disciplinary Board/Tatatertib had specifically mentioned that the Royal Malaysian Police are NOT like those portrayed on TV and they DO NOT work like those crime investigators in CSI and other stuff you watch on TV. They will only entertain 'prominent' cases and others are not worth to be entertained. On top of that, we were discouraged from depending on the police for further investigations and were requested to become our 'own' police... this made me think about one thing... What the HELL are we paying taxes for if they're not willing to do their work and receiving 'illegal' monies from hooligans? Who is paying for their salaries and uniform they are wearing today? The houses they live in? Their meals?

After having gone (and going) through hell over government departments and relevant authorities, all our efforts have yet to yeild any results... You are absolutely right when you mentioned that "Malaysia has the worst record in the world to convict human traffickers".

I think this issue has been blown out of proportion as the Dateline NBC did not do justice for all parties involved in this particular case. First of all, the woman was supposed to be a singer and not waiter as many Philippinos are being hired to sing at clubs, pubs and hotels in Malaysia. She actually worked as a singer for a while but changed her mind soon after that. The central issue in this case is the advance paid for on her behalf to fly her into Malaysia. Since she did not honour her contract, her employer asked her to pay back the money that she owed and she can leave. Since she did not have the money, she asked for help and the rest is history and you have the negative impression of Malaysian Police. FYI, the employer, who is a medical doctor actually cooperated with the police and explained the actual situation. That is why he was not arrested and as such given the impression that police did not take any action against the so called human trafficker.

So, don't believe everything that they shoe on TV just like when President Bush accused the late Saddam have a WMD and can launch a preemtive strike within 45 minutes.

Which citizen of the world condone to such act? Maybe we are one of the worst in failing to convict human traffickers but we are certainly not the worst. Is it based on the fact that prostitutions are not widely open to the public as seen in many countries where you could see them standing naked by the window of their abode waiting and hoping that those passers by would enter their establishment? Does this constitutes them as a willing party deemed legal in the eyes of law compared to prostitutes in Malaysia which are being kept like refugees due to the illegality of such immoral activities?

Who is gaining from all this?

The men. Men are dirty, disgusting and shameful. Getting huge income out of someone elses expense and at the same time using women to fulfil their dirty lust. This goes to all the frequent customers of those front lane or back lanes as well as those involved in taking bribes to close their eyes on such activity.

    and

Shame on the girls who sells their body for money. Use your brain for once, get a proper job through a reliable source. Naivety has no place on earth. Grow up and stop acting stupid and helpless.

Lets monitor the recent Bakun case.

Public continually ***** approximately police is actual. that's all because of fact Police is in fact a public servant. for occasion whilst a proprietor appoints a individual as a servant for his kin works and if he isn't appearing his works exact he would be banged via his proprietor. Non overall performance of his artwork may well be because of some distance extra suitable than artwork tension, poor revenue, no perquisites, inadequate training, 2 individual artwork engaged with one million. interior the comparable way our Police branch is lacking with all the above mentioned , and entire artwork tension is placed in one section whilst there's a political assembly for his or her risk-free practices. site visitors and Police branch is shaped in trouble-free terms for the standard public. in trouble-free terms the government shoud seem after this regulation and order subject with the police and site visitors branch. Public isn't something to do in assisting out the site visitors wardens, particular police.

Malaysia is definitely doing something about human trafficking, try doing some research.

NBC does good editing. So don't believe everything you see on tv.

    The sad part is

when TV pinpoints out a small happening and that country will be stereotyped.
