Why does the Philippine government allow discriminatory hiring practices?
On recent trips to the Philippines, I noticed many ads in the papers looking to hire "singles, under 25, and must be over 5"1"...whatever the position, there was usually some requirement of age, or height or marital status. This is certainly against the law in Canada and I would assume in most western countries. Why do you people allow this discrimination?

Because in reality, the Philippines is a Theocracy--Rule by a religious elite, followed by a Oligarchy and a Plutocracy. A Plutocracy is a government composed of the wealth class. Whereas a Oligarchy is ruled by a small group of people who share similar interests of family relations. Such as the Marcos Family, the Arroyo Family and the Aquino Family, twice around.

All hiring practices are discriminatory. If that is not true than a Buddhist monk has to be hired for a Baptist Church. Or maybe a pedophile hired for a school. I do not believe not hiring someone in Church related initiatives id negative discrimination.

Usually jobs that requires a certain height for marketing/sales promoters or for tourism.
Hey I once tried to apply for a job on board of a ship, it's more of technical, training & dealing wth computers...even tht requires a certain kinda height. It's only later I understood, height is judge for the physical impression of the capability of that person.
It's also true, that most short ppl. don't get command very well unless they are loud or have a level of authority & yes brains.

The Philippines is a developing country and has serious corruption problems. As the country becomes further developed these things will improve in all areas.

If you're talking about Philippines, then you've yet to see the Malaysian version where everyone is specifically advertising for job vacancies such as "CHINESE ONLY" or "MALAY/BUMIPUTERA ONLY".
It is also another 'criteria' in advertising for room tenants/rentals where home owners/landlords specifically discriminates 'who/what race' they should allow to live in their premises.
Some people calls it discrimination, but some insists that it is just being 'Merdeka'...
