Kids of Illegals?

WOW, sure are a lot of people who like The 14th Amendment.

How do you same people feel about Section 3 of the 14th Amendment?

Are you also wanting the trials and convictions of any government official who proposes any form of amnesty, or interferes with the enforcement of current laws dealing with illegals apprehension and deportation.

After all, it is there in plain English in the sacred 14th Amendment, no aid or comfort to our enemies.

If you want to claim they are not enemies, I am willing to listen.

Just show me how we can protect our country and at the same time differentiate between "harmless-illegals" and the Hispanics preaching the dogma of Aztlan.

Please show me how to tell other than waiting to see who works and who tries to kill us and divide our country.

For our security only the harmless ones could be considered for any amnesty, any Amnesty plan that does not take into account this division is unconstitutional by this very same sacred 14th Amendment.

If these kids are going to be citizens, let them be raised by citizens or go home with their parents. The parents should not be allowed to stay here because they can pop out a kid.

If they can't get a simple majority to vote cloture on an immigration reform bill, what makes you think they can get 2/3 of both houses and 3/4 of the state legislatures to vote on repealing the 14th amendment?

That amendment was the result of a very bloody civil war, and I think repealing it without starting another civil war is about as likely as repealing the entire constitution including the bill of rights.

Besides, if you take away the 14th amendment, they could later vote to take away citizenship from those who don't meet an income or education requirement, bring back the poll tax and the literacy exam, or require property ownership, racial segregation and for all four grandparents to have been citizens.

So why speculate on something that is never going to happen?

What countries allow the parents (illegals) to automatically become citizens if they have a baby?

This is not the case here in US or in the UK. The child will have a right but the parents do not. Unless they apply through the proper channels

14th Amendment -- the plain text says that anyone born in the US is a US citizen.

"All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States"

The only exception is the "subject to the jurisdiction" -- which applies to kids born to foreign diplomats and other individuals who are not subject to the US laws.

But any child born in the US, and subject to US laws, is a US citizen. Until the Constitution gets amended.

And we have no control over other the immigration or citizenship laws of countries, so we could not make any law that compels any other country to grant citizenship -- we can only affect who is or is not a US citizen.

Because in this wonderful country of ours, if you are born here you are a US Citizen. And you know that, so I don't know why you would ask.

Because of the mistranslation of the 14th amendment (it was passed to guarantee citizenship for all the freed slaves not for the children of illegals)

Unfortunately over time the 14th Amendment has been radically misinterpreted,and this misinterpretation has been embraced by the courts,thus giving it the force of law whether the current situation was ever the intent of the Amendment or not. Which if you read it carefully it becomes clear it was not.

But it is amazing what kinds of shenanigans you can pull with interpretation of law if you give enough lawyers enough time to argue it out,and so for now we are stuck with this mess where invaders from other countries are told their children are citizens just because they waited until they crosses the border to pop it out.

People don't care about 99% of the constitution only the parts that pertain to them. Well, I suppose if Osama bin Ladan had a little girl drop a baby here we'd be ok with them becoming citizens. Why not! It's in the constitution!

Maybe a law can be written to change the meaning to something more reasonable for this day and age. I don't suppose they realized at the time how successful our country would be and that people would abandon their countries so eagerly to come here! It must be nice to be a politician in Mexico and see people flocking by the millions to get out of your country.

No. It really hasn't a hurt us a country to have this law, so why change it now. If you really want to solve illegal immigration, we must do something to help reduce the economic disparity between the US and Latin America.

Why is it that some people just don't understand that when a child is born on U.S. soil, it means they are a U.S. citizen?I mean serious, why is that so hard to understand?
