Tell your son to get registered with an employment agency. The reputable ones will place him on various assignments. He can see what he likes/dislikes and plan his future better from there. Now is the best time of the year to do as the students are heading back to school.

Go to your local unemployment office. They will be able to help you with your resume/interview. Also, they may have suggestions for contacts in the area. They often have workshops, and will help you search for the job you are looking for. I am not sure where you are from, but in Canada their service is free. They give you free quality paper to print your resume on, computer access, etc. They usually even have a list that they can put you on if an employer needs some temporary work. They would pass your resume on to them.

Tell everyone you know you're looking for a job. Be specific about the type of job.
If you don't have a computer, try going to a public library.
Flip through the phonebook, see what companies you'd like to work for, call them and try to get a hold of the person who does the hiring.

Try signing up for employement with local job search agencies in your local town start.
ManPower
Kelly Services
Exploymentgroup
etc.
They should be listed in your local yellow pages.

The most important thing you can do is first, apply. Second, follow up - make some kind of contact with them. Call them or show up. Ask if they saw your resume and that you are interested. This makes them dig your app/resume out of the pile & look at it.

Networking, networking, networking! These days its all about who you know. Sometimes this is better than what you know. I would let everyone in your social circle know that you are looking for a job.
