Question for Harry Potter Fans--if you haven't read the 7th book do not read any further.?

If JK Rowling were to write another book in the series....

Which would you prefer?

1. A Prequel involving Harry's parent's and thier battles with Voldemort.

2. A Sequel involving Harry and Ron's kids?

3. An 8th book detailing the time period after Hogwarts but before they sent their kids to school.

I would chose I book about the Mauraders' era. A bit about they time in school, how they all got to be friends, the crazy stuff they did and on the other side of course, about Lily and Snape and their friendship. And a bit more detailed about their lives after Hogwarts. How the Mauraders got in the Order, their battles with Voldemort and of course, not forgetting a bit about Snape's life as a Death Eater.

At first I was leaning to 3 - an 8th book, but as the person above said from the time of Voldemort's defeat up until he has kids, things were peaceful, still would be a good read. A sequel sounds cliche, and what would the sequel contain? There's no more evil... It would kind of defeat the purpose of the original 7 books, all that time waiting to find out if Harry dies or if he kills Voldemort and then all of a sudden, there's even more evil to come in a sequel with their kids? No thanks. So in the end I guess it'd the Prequel, we have a taste of what happened when Voldemort rose to power before Harry was born but it would be cool to go back to the beginning. I'd feel more connected with the characters if I read about the battles their parents faced in their time.

And Melkiha, Star Wars is a perfect example of a Prequel.. We've got the original 3 and then years later the latter 3 which go back and tell another story of how things came to be.

Source(s): Lol.. matt i just noticed you also mentioned Star Wars :)

I don't know, I guess option 1, but really, I think it's a good decision on her part to not write any more books (considering how she finished off the 7th one). I'm not really sure if she could pull the prequel off, but it would be cool to find out specifically what the Order of the Phoenix is doing, it was always kind of mysterious. It would have to be very well done, but it could potentially be very good I think. A sequel with the kids just wouldn't be as interesting I don't think, I mean, it would be basically the same kinds of everyday things we already went through with Harry, which were interesting the first time around, but I don't know about a second time. Also, there wouldn't be the whole conflict with Voldemort to give the rest of it flavor, so I don't know. Plus, it would be kind of weird if all of a sudden some other evil pops up. And as far as option 3 is concerned, the epilogue basically said nothing happened (as interesting as Harry marrying Ginny might be, I don't think it's enought to fill an entire book) so no. Anyway, it would be very disappointing if she wrote another book and it didn't meet the standard of the original 7, so I'd prefer to not have one, I'll be happy with the encyclopedia.

In 2006, Rowling revealed that she had completed a few short stories and another children's book (a "political fairy story") about a monster, aimed at a younger audience than Harry Potter readers.[63]

She is not planning to write an eighth Harry Potter book, but has said she will be writing an "encyclopaedia" of the wizarding world consisting of various unpublished material and notes.[64] Any profits from such a book would be given to charity.[65] When asked on 6 July 2007 whether she would ever write an eighth Harry Potter novel Rowling confirmed that she only ever planned to write seven books in the series but also that she could not rule it out entirely. "Um, I think that Harry's story comes to quite a clear end in Book Seven but I've always said that I wouldn't say 'never'. I can't say I'll never write another book about that world just because I think what do I know, in ten years time I might want to return to it but I think it's unlikely".[66] In a recent interview, she said she "wants to fall in love with another idea...", also stating that "Harry Potter was the experience of a lifetime".

In an interview published on 26 July 2007, Rowling said that she wants to dedicate "lots" of her time to her family, but is currently "sort of writing two things", one for children and the other for adults. She did not give any details about the two projects but did state that she was excited because the two book situation reminds her of writing the Philosopher's Stone, explaining how she was then writing two books until Harry took over.[67][68]

It has been reported that Rowling is currently working on a crime novel set in Edinburgh, Scotland. Fellow Scottish author Ian Rankin is quoted as saying that his wife has seen Rowling writing the novel in Edinburgh cafés.[69]

I would prefer to know more about Harry Potter's world. You know, what happens to all the kids and adults you know? Plus all these little tidbits of extra information about the Wizarding World. That'd be cool

None of the above. What readers don't understand that often writer's do is that less is more. The Harry Potter series is over. Even if she were to come back and add on to the series, it would only devalue the original 7...mainly because she wouldn't be writing it because she felt a need to continue the story, only because fans were pressuring her. As I said, this is something that many readers don't understand but writers often do. Sorry to all the fans, but HP is over. Re-read the series, create fanfics, anything to help you remember how much you love the series....but know that there's not going to be anymore.

Hmm, the prequel would be the most interesting from those choices for me.

I'm not sure why, but it just doesn't interest me to read about Harry and co.'s kids.

Plus, I found Voldemort an interesting character to read about so I think that'd help make a prequel book the most interesting.

I like answer 1/2, because I really don't think much happens during the time after Harry deafeats voldemort to when he has kids. Its a time of peace, and therefore kind of boring to read about.

Probably a prequel...remember Trelawney's words that his parents had "thrice defied Voldemort"? That was never adequately explained, in my opinion. And a little more info on Harry's ancestors and how the wizard clans are all inter-related...so yup, I'd go for a prequel if it was me.
