My dog gets carsick?

My 4 month old puppy gets car sick (throws up) any time we take him out in the car. It doesn't have to be that far of a distance. Any suggestions????

i'm sorry to hear that. however, i've heard that if you keep taking them on short trips, and stop, at like the end of the block. Let the dog out, play, give praise and a treat, then return home... they will associate the car with treats, praise, and fun. slowly increase the trips and the dog will be better. Try a booster carseat the puppy can sit in safely and look out the window, too. That always seems to help humans recover from car sickness.

however, my puppy had the same thing, but it went away on its own... granted, we took it for numerous car rides, all realitively short, and the carsickness ceased.

    Good Luck!

When we got our puppy from the pound we drove home and he had the same problem as in throwing up or using the bathroom anytime we took him some where. Dramamine may help some so you might try that or try to make sure the trip is really short or try to get him use to the car.when in the car pet him so he won't feel that scared when in the moving car. Good Luck. Kelly

Take him for frequent, but short car rides like down the street. Eventually he will get used to the motion from that. Also before he gets used to it, always make sure you have a towel in the car so you can clean up his messes.

Some dogs do, some don't. It is just the way they are made. I have had some that get a little better with time and repeated rides, but some don't. It just has to do with their tolerance to motion and how sensitive their inner ear is. It's not something you can fix. Dramamine or Bonine might help, but I have never had good luck with them.

I found with my dog the trick is to make sure she doesn't eat or drink before going in the car. Also, letting the dog sit in the front helps. There is something about sitting in the back seat with things whipping by is usually what does it (same as people). When you sit in the front looking forward, things don't zoom by so fast.

My akita did the same thing. Get some dramamine is used for seasickness it's at the drug store it is also safe to give animals. About a half an hour give the puppy half a pill. It works wonders!

Try keeping a window open and don't let the car over heat, try let him focus on something like give him a treat or play with him, a make sure that he has some water.

Ginger is supposed to help. But usually if you take them on small short trips and go back before they get sick, you can desensitize them to the car..

Are you putting him in a carrier? My poodle gets carsick if she's in the carrier. If we let her out and hold her on our laps, she's fine. I have no clue why it would make a difference but it did in our case.
