My friend is afraid to be in the car with me during a thunder storm because I am on oxygen and she thinks?

my canisters will attract lightning. Is this possible ?

Update:

I guess I should have said on "supplemental" oxygen. Sorry!

She's not afraid of the gas tank exploding? I've read of vehicle being struck with no injuries to the occupants.I am sure an ambulance somewhere had to have been hit by lighten, that carries bottles of oxygen, never heard of one blowing up. I suppose anything is possible, but what are the odds?

It's possible but you're grounded with the rubber tires and be okay. How many people have been hit by lightning without an oxygen tank? She's being ridiculous.

What do you mean on oxygen? You carry O2 with you all the time?

Your car would provide insulation if lightning were to struck. It'll not attract lightning as when a lightning strikes, it'll always strike the highest point available e.g. trees, poles, buildings...

Well if you put them on the top of the tree.

Lightening actually starts from the ground by a positive charged build up. Negative electrons meet this charge from the sky creating lightening. Because you are grounded by four rubber tires, it is VERY unlikely a bolt will strike you.

You have the same probability of being struck as anyone else in a metal car. It shouldn't be a problem.

no the metal frame around you will protect you and your tires are insulators rolling down the road less likely to attrack lighting witch takes the path of least resistance.

Chances of this happening are slim to none, but stranger things have happened, of course.
