What color is best for a bedroom?

My husband wanted a light blue color but we don't want something that is so depressing. Does anyone know of any colors that would bring a uplifting mood in our bedroom?

Update:

Nothing too whitish either...

If you want a peaceful, restful atmosphere muted colors are the best choice.

Cool colors such as blues, greens, and lavenders are perfect for bedrooms. A bonus to using lighter colors is that they can make a small room look much larger. Where darker, vibrant colors will do the opposite.

There are also colors that tend to spark creativity. If the chosen colors for the walls are neutral colors and those that tend to invite rest but the occupant wants it also to be a workplace, sometimes the colors chosen for the bedspreads are those that will spark creativity. According to Feng shui, the colors yellow and orange while vibrant colors, also encourages activity and better focus. Beneath that should be a bed sheet that has a softer hue to encourage rest when the activities are done. When the activity in the bedroom is done not in the bed, the corners where one chooses to work most should adopt more vibrant colors.

Colors make statements. It could signify love, peace, tranquility, boldness, creativity etc. Due to this, colors have to be adapted to the mood of the bedroom that the occupant wants to evoke. Feng shui also uses colors to decrease, augment or redirect the chi of the person. Some would want to increase a person's yang by adopting a different set of colors while others want improvements on their yin. The rule of the thumb when these principles are being applied is to create a balance in the person making him neither too yin nor too yang.

Decorative touches and accessories are also placed with the end view of creating harmony in a person.

There are also eight different life directions in the individual. To enhance this and benefit the occupant in the bedroom, different colors that could be represented by an artwork could be placed in all the compass direction. This however involves a deeper study and colors could be specific to the life goals that the person occupying the bedroom desires.

    Hello,

Good colours for a bedroom are any restful ,soft tones, nothing bright or loud. Shades of green, mauve, cream or blue. What are your favourite colours?

You could try painting just one wall & leave the others a neutral colour. You could include an accent colour as well by adding cushions ,floor matt/carpet & curtains/ drapes in another colour.

Try to come to a compromise that both of you will like. Have fun with it & enjoy the process!

It would be interesting to know what you decide.

We recently painted our bedroom, actually all the rooms in our home. For the kid's rooms we allowed them to choose (within reason of course) their colors. That resulted in one "shocking green" room and one outrageously orange room. The latter being called "sizzle". These were eye openers. The orange almost requires sunglasses when the sun shines in. We settled for bleached sandstone. My point being is don't be afraid to use color. Let your personality shine in each room of your home. Bright colors are not awful but they stand out beautifully. Soft neutral colors like the bleached sandstone can be beautifully accented with many other color complements. I want my room to be as comforting and homey as vanilla pudding. The kids want a reflection of their personality. Spend some time and pick up color samples and see where your imagination takes you. Good luck.

Well blue can be uplifting. If you have a soft blue and then add lots of white in linens, curtains, trims & ceilings, and glass and mirror accessories then it would be quite relaxing and uplifting. Light greens are good because they encourage relaxation and sleep. Light sandy browns and tans are good too, not too feminine and you could add a dark chocolate bedspread and bring the blues in cushions and curtains.

I have heard that pastels are the best, so if you want blue you get pastel blue personally i would go with a pastel purple as it is nice and calming in the bedroom and blue is so common :-)

Pick a soft cream color for all the walls but one and pick a sexy hot color for an accent wall.Fix it to where you can see the accent wall when your in the bed. That would look so good.

try the new ocean colors that are "in" blues with tans, browns, khakis, etc... they are relaxing and very modern looking. They have a section of ocean colors at Lowes, you can pick the ones you like.
