Why would a computer all of a sudden show 2 of every icon on the desk top?

When the icons are clicked, the aplications start to load a second, but then quickly disapear.

No setting were changed but this happened when installing a (store bought) pc game.

*The Start menu works. But the applications are slow

*Also the task manager has changed.

*And the way it logs on is differernt too!

Not connected to internet A freind borrowed disk. It worked fine before. The computer is running xp.

Thank you.

go to Start--Accesories--System tools--and System restore. Restore the computer to a time earlier than when you installed the software. This should fix the problem, but don't install that software again. Some programs are just written horribly.

It might be because you put it on your instamt start after your computer finishes loading and it slows downs the computer a bit or alot depending on the memory being used and that is free.

seems a bit weird for your virus what graphics card you got it could be your card has overheated and caused the shutdown, ( happened to my old 9600 pro ) try re seating the graphics card or purchasing another ( this is if the virus scans dont work )

also try uninstalling you card and reinstalling !
