Do I NEED a phone line to have Direct TV installed??

I'm one click away from buying Direct TV with the Sunday Ticket package along with HD and as I was reading the final terms and I seen it mentions a phone line ..it says "Your receiver must be continuously connected to a land-based phone line to activate your receivers and to allow pay per view ordering by remote control." That sounds like bull to me, they say if you don't activate your receivers they slap you with a $150 fee ..I don't have a phone line and I don't want one, I use a Cell. I only want it for the Sunday Ticket, should I drop this idea and stick with cable??

Phone line is for pay per view movie ordering only. This is something they try to get you to install so they don't have to have phone operators at DirecTV when you suddenly want to watch a movie.

DirecTV is the only way to get NFL Sunday ticket so if you want that stick with DirecTV.

Your dsl should be on a different cable pair from the telephone office to your cpu. It should not effect your service in any way if it was installed correctly. Your internet speed should not go from 800 kpbs to 154kbps. That's to much of an increase and drop. 154 kbps should be all you need to run your computer. You told us alot of info but you didn't say if your cpu ran on a wireless modem. Wireless can make you signal drop as much as 50 kbps. My installer for my dsl, went to the main junction box where all the jacks appeared on a punch down block and removed the orange white wire that went to 7 other jacks in the house. My dsl line only appears on the jack where the modem is now. This might be something you could check out if your handy. I think you have a dsl problem and it started when you plugged in the receiver. If you have a maintenance plan with the phone co. for inside wires, I would have them check out the jack behind the receiver and make sure its not the dsl line your plugging the receiver into. You need the receiver to have the phone line for updates, so it really needs to be plugged in.

DirecTv beats cable on all fronts. You can order Pay Per View online or by calling, and this is the only reason you would need a phone line.
