When Mike Krzyzewski no longer coaches at Duke, will the program suffer horribly?

Duke missed the NCAA's 7 times in 10 years before K got there so that's not very good in my book.. Yes Duke will go through a lull (for them) after he leaves just like UNC and UCLA did. When you lose someone that valuable then there are going to be consequences. I think Dawkins will take over when he decides to step down since he is already in house now.

I think it will go through a transition like any major program would. The question will be if they want to hire a Coack K protege. I could pick one that would be worthy off the top of my head. UNC had about 5 or more worthy possibilities. But remember Coach K didn't make Duke what they are, they had been very good for a decade or so before K, although he certainly took them to another level.
For those saying they werent good before K took over in '80 take a look at who won Coach of the Year in '78, who won the ACC championship, and looka t the Final Four Teams. Also, check out Duke's records for the 60's, very good team.
He will have a close hand in the program, given that he has a lifetime contract, so I dont see the program falling too far for long if at all.

Are you on crack? Coack K is one of the best coaches in the history of the game. He gets as much out of his team as he possibly can. I really don't think that they would even be ranked most years if it wasn't for Coach K's coaching and recruiting. You can't knock a guy for having a good record, a high ranked team, but not winning the championship every year, as only one team can win it.

With Coach K's name alone makes his recruiting power tremendous! I would hope he would pitch in and help for a couple recruiting classes to get things going the way they should. Lets face it.....The mans a mastermind basketball coach!

Not if they hire Bobby Hurley as his replacement.
Seriously though, as long as the top talents aren't swayed from going to Duke by K's departure, they'll be fine.

He has coached so many bright young talents that one of them{Hurley } will step in and take over almost seemlessly

It depends on how he goes and how he is replaced. I think that he will eventually retire and that he will be replaced by one of his assistants that will try to keep the program intact.
