Previous posters have a point when they say the Lakers don't have the players to pull off a trade for another superstar, but a trade for a superstar isn't necessary. The problem is that there's no one in the Lakers' front office like Jerry West who can convince another GM that there's something in it for them.
For example, the Denver Nuggets are a team drowning in long term, big money contracts. The Washington Wizards just signed big man Andray Blatche and re-signed DeShawn Stevenson, which could make a could of veterans available. A trade that benefits everyone, and hurts no one would be this:
Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown's expiring contract, rights to Marc Gasol and a lottery protected 1st round pick to Denver. At the same time, they could move promising PG Javaris Crittenton to the Wizards.
Denver sends PF Nene to LA and PF Kenyon Martin to Washington.
Washington sends PF Etan Thomas and PG Antonio Daniels to the Lakers.
There, not an all star in the bunch. Only Laker haters shoot this trade down. People who talk about Kwame Brown being a bust miss the point. He's 8 pts, 6 reb., a big body and a $9M expiring contract. The only sticking point is getting Washington to take on K-Mart's contract.

They dont have the right tools to trade around Kobe. They did a bad job with the salary cap and will have to trade players like Odom, Walton, Bynum, and Brown to even get a couple worth wild players. Signing players like Cook and Fisher definetly hurts becase they are O.k players with not too much more up-side to them and they cost a good amount of money for how good they are. They signed Luke Walton of all people to an all-star contract...... bad decision.

realistically, nobody. kobe wants a superstar to play alongside him. why a superstar? because the last time he won big, there was shaq. odom is good but he isnt dominant. and if i were memphis or indiana i would want more than odom, bynum, walton, kwame for gasol or JO. the lakers have no valuable trade commodities other than kobe and they have no good young players so no team would want to trade with LA.

Walton, Maurice Evans, Vladimir Radmonovich, Kwame Brown and future draft picks for Pau Gasol. The lineup would be as so:
C: Chris Mihm
PF: Pau Gasol
SF: Lamar Odom
SG: Kobe
PG: Derek Fisher
