I'm a transfer student who has been admitted to both Cal and Davis. This should be an easy and obvious choice, I should choose Cal. But I'm absolutely torn between the 2 schools, I feel like I'm in a lose lose situation and that I would regret not going to the other school.

2 AnswersCameras1 decade agoi need hep explaining an elodea experiment?
i placed 1 elodea leaf in each solution and looked at them through a microscope. the solutions were 5% sucrose, distilled water, and 4% NaCl. naturally, the chloroplasts in the sucrose solution were still spread out indicating that it was hypotonic. in the distilled water the chloroplasts were spread out indicating it was isotonic. the chloroplasts were clumped together in the NaCl solution indicating that it was hypertonic.
question: discuss the differences between these 3 slides; propose an explanation relating to the differences between NaCl and sucrose such as molecular weight or permeability; propose an experiment to test your exaplanation and expected results if your hypothesis is correct.
1 AnswerBotany1 decade agowhy is it that when you put an elodea leaf in 5% sucrose, it becomes hypotonic, but?
if you put it in a 4% NaCl solution it becomes hypertonic. i think it has something to do with the concentrations and molecular weight. but im not entirely sure. please any help would greatly be appreciated.

5 AnswersBiology1 decade agoin dire need of help. anyone know about botulinum toxin?
answers to any of these would be nice.
1) do you know its natural location? since it's produced by C botulinum im guessing it comes from soil and canned foods that werent properly sealed. and it affects humans if they ingest it. im not sure if i am right or not.
2) what is its function (what metabolic process is it involved in overall, what specific job does it do, what is the mechanism of its function)? i think it has to do with the toxin blocking off the receptors of the nerve to the muscle. but its just my guess im not sure.
3) the proteins structure, including secondary structire and overall 3D shape, the location of ligand binding sites for function and regulation. this i really dont know.
please help me. thanks.
