Officers are "management", while enlisted are the guys who actually DO things. However, officers get A LOT more money.

Officers have a college degree and have received a commission to serve as an officer in the Army. Enlisted have all the fun and do all the hard work.

Many enlisted do go in right out of high school, but there are alot more enlisted these days, with college educations...just like the officers. However, officers have to have a college education and are commissioned. Most enlisted will tell you they "work for a living." They do do more of the actual labor, but senior enlisted are management as well and don't do alot of actual labor work either. All officers outrank all enlisted. The lieutenant right out of west point out ranks the sgt. major that has been in for 30 years, technically anyway. My husband is an E-7 and is not officer material. He really likes being enlisted and is totally happy with that. Officers definately make more money though. Good luck.

An enlisted personnel is one who enlists in the military without the President's appointment. Most enlisted come right out of high school with no college experience. At E-4/E-5, these personnels are considered Non-Commissioned Officer and E-6 to E-9, these personnels are Staff Non-Commissioned Officer.
An officer is appointed by the President of the US. All officers have some kind of Bachelor's Degree. Some officers are prior service and most have no military service other than their ROTC training.

Enlisted is from E-1 (private) to E-9 (SGM). Officers (Lieutenant to General) get commissioned and they get to tell others what to do

Enlisted can't become an officer, unless they go to officer school and become a Cheif warrent officer. The other type of officer goes to college for four years and can go to the military as an officer. A lueitent, also known as a butter bar. Ask you'll find out why!

Who salutes first. We used to say that the only difference between the army and the boy scouts was that the boy scouts had adult leadership.
