My Jack Russell Terrier is being stubborn and doesn't want to be potty trained?

I have tried every trick in the book and I'm getting close, but she is old enough to have learned. She loves to stay outdoor, but I think she forgets what she out there for and then comes back in and soils. I got that pretty well under control and then she has been messing at night. She and her sister have dry food out all the time and I feed them at 6pm which I figure will give them enough time to process dinner and leave their offerings outside. Any help will be... helpful.

It sounds to me like you have "reverse-trained" your dog.

You don't mention about crating, or other confinement. You might want to look into that. Generally speaking, dogs do not like to relieve themselves in the same place that they eat or sleep. I would recommend that you keep your dog in a crate during sleep time and meal time. Immediately following the confinement, get the dog outside. If the dog does its business, give copious amounts of praise.

If, however, after about 10 minutes, the dog has not relieved itself, return him/her to the crate for about 15 minutes, then repeat.

If the dog did relieve himself, you can leave him out of the crate for a little while.

It does take time...but it can be done.

well you could put newspaper down where she usually does the toilet and slowly work your way to the door, and when she does do it outside give her lot and lots of praise. If you catch her in the act you should quickly pick her up and take her outside then give her praise when she's outside, even if she has stopped doing the toilet by this time.I know this could make a bit of a mess picking her up but it would be worth it in the end.
