My Jack Russell Terrier is being stubborn and doesn't want to be potty trained?

I have tried every trick in the book and I'm getting close, but she is old enough to have learned. She loves to stay outdoor, but I think she forgets what she out there for and then comes back in and soils. I got that pretty well under control and then she has been messing at night. She and her sister have dry food out all the time and I feed them at 6pm which I figure will give them enough time to process dinner and leave their offerings outside. Any help will be... helpful.

Update:

I want to thank everyone for your wonderful suggestions. Lady Bug is a slow learner I guess because I have done everything except the crate training. She has the most piteous cry when she is "hurt"which is anytime she seems to be out of my site or she can't sit on me. I have had her since she was born. A friend's female was hit by a car right after she gave birth and he couldn't feed two mouths, so I was her Mommy. I have a debilitating disease and I needed a dog that I could cuddle and also someone for my older dog to enjoy. Lady Bug is slowly getting through her head that outdoor is best, but I wanted to see if anyone had any ideas I haven't tried. I used potty pads instead of newspaper, I'm not fast enough to catch her and I used to crate her at night and she cried all night. I finally got a rubber sheet so she could sleep on the bed. She is spoiled. Thank you all for your great ideas and thoughts.

well you could put newspaper down where she usually does the toilet and slowly work your way to the door, and when she does do it outside give her lot and lots of praise. If you catch her in the act you should quickly pick her up and take her outside then give her praise when she's outside, even if she has stopped doing the toilet by this time.I know this could make a bit of a mess picking her up but it would be worth it in the end.

Maybe try feeding2-3 X's per Day and nothing after 5 pm.Don't leave food down all the time .It's okay to leave water down all the time but sometimes pups will eat continuously and poop all night.Maybe give him a chew and something to play with to keep him mind off eating and pooping.Or maybe even try crate training, get you a book at Pets Mart or Pet Co on crate training. It is not that bad for the night once they get used to it and they learn not to go in their own environment.Good Luck!!!

Jack Russells are very excitable. I've never known one who could control his/her bladder when excited. Just make sure she gets praise when she goes outside or on paper and gets your "back" when she breaks the rule and pees, etc indoors.

Start with only allowing her in one room. It's punishment for her and she will see it that way. Line the entire room with paper. You're basically going to have to start over. When she goes on the paper, praise her. When she goes and does her business outside, praise her. Slowly shrink the amount of paper in the room and keep it moving toward the door. Then praise her if she goes on the paper, but even more if she asks to go outside to do her thing. If she comes back in and misses the paper, scold her and turn your back on her. Once she stops getting attention when she does it "wrong", she'll do everything she can to do it "right". She's very social. It's like a timeout when you ignore her. She'll get the idea.

Source(s): Friends have Jack Russells. In fact, that is the only kind of dogs my friends have. Freaky, especially since they all don't know each other.
