What is your favorite Operating System??

Mines is windows XP, by far, out of all the operating systems from Microsoft, i would pick XP, whether its Home edition, or Pro.

i still love XP, i have tried Vista Before, and it's nothing that special!! i also like XP to be my favorite operating system, because from Microsoft* its backward compatible, its "EXPERIENCED!!" windows XP, i like that NAME!!!!!!!!!!!

lol i think someone is a bit too fascinated with the name XP. Although i have to agree that Microsoft XP by far is the most stable and most productive operating system out of all of them, excluding the server side.

Windows Vista would be great after all bugs and kernel problems are all settled. Its design is elegant and looks really nice especially on a huge LCD that has bright colors. Besides that, its a memory hog, very slow and half the good programs dont work on it, not to mention to driver issues and the random BSODs.

If i was to pick one operating system to do it all, i would probably say XP, Linux however would be my other choice but then i would have to choose a distro and there are thousands out there-although ubuntu does stand out, or maybe BackTrack 2 (i love this distro). XP however does it all and with VMware, you can integrate other OS's so its all good.

On the other hand, people might say mac OS X but their hardware is over priced! 21inch LCDs start climbing $800-$1000 .. wtf!!! and their software is propiertary .

    Mac OS X (10.4)

Without getting up on a soap box about the whole subject which could be greatly argued from every angle, suffice it to say that I have been programming software for nearly 20 years and can't argue in favor of ANY Microsoft OS (particularly the bloated, overpriced Vista which comes in a variety of complicated versions).

OK.... [pdtpatrick]... you provoked the soap box ;-)

Since Macs are now Intel based, if you compared an equally equipped Dell/Sony computer, you will find that in fact the Macs are actually CHEAPER than a Windows based PC.

Finally, WINDOWS is the only proprietary OS in existence today... Mac has been based on BSD UNIX for serveral years, and will soon be certified as 100% UNIX.

The alternative is Linux, which is TOTALLY open source / non-proprietary... do your homework!

    (stepping off the soap-box).

Windows XP here too and am NOT ready to give Vista a try as I'll happily wait until the bugs are pretty much gone and the version is so old that the "newest" version at that time is ready to be released!
