Please help. I have an Adobe PDF Extension error. Can you help me fix it? I'm not having any luck!?

This is what the error message says:

"One or more Adobe PDF Extensions are disabled. This may impact how PDF's are displayed in Internet Explorer. Please go to Manage Add-ons in Internet Explorer and enable add-ons from Adobe. You will need to restart Internet Explorer after performing this action."

I have no idea what they are talking about. I can find a place that mentions add-ons, but I can't find any place where Adobe add-ons can be enabled.

I would really appreciate any help that you could give to help me solve this issue.

Thank you in advance.

    Hi ya home schooling mom...

First off I hate adobe. But they are a necessary evil in some cases.

what you need to do is open up your adobe reader from the start menu. Then go to Edit then preferences. Depending on what version you are running you may find your preferences under one of the other headings...

Then in the left column click on Internet. Web browser options clear the "Display PDf in browser.

Now when you click on the PDF it will download the file to a location you can either save it or delete it (your preference). And once it is downloaded Adobe will open it for you in its own reader and not rely on either microsoft or mozilla for extension use...

Another good reader I have ben using as of late is Foxit Reader. So far I haven't found a pdf file it can't open. And it is so small it opens immediately and does not take forever to open then "offer you to update your reader along with several other programs they want you to use like adobe.

    It can be found here

Good luck with your teachings and take care of those students!! they are my future leaders... (I hope!!)

    Edit:

Well! Ms Lucee beat me to the keyboard!!! But she is right, You might want to keep adobe on your machine though just in case they throw in some complicated PDF file at home schoolers... But after you see it works for you kick it to the curb like she said...

So... It appears I am the Chorus portion of this answers section so to my leader Lucee I can only give you a thumbs up! Here you go...

This is a mess that comes with Adobe. I don't normally bad-mouth software, but Adobe is particularly bad about this. My suggestion is that you get a small, fast and efficient PDF reader called Foxit Reader, and uninstall and get rid of Adobe, completely. I did that several years ago, and have had no trouble reading PDF documents whether they are online, on my hard disk or on a CD. Download & install Foxit, then click on STart, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and find Adobe. Click to remove ALL of it, and once it confirms removal, close the control panel and restart the computer. I don't think you'll regret getting Foxit.

And if you are truly home-schooling your children, you need a fast, efficient PDF reader.
