Men who knit?
I have started knitting about 8 months ago. For me, it was something that I picked up because I spend a lot of time watching TV, but wanted to do something while I was watching TV. Mostly things I watch are cartoons and sports.
Much of the knitting sites have things for women, but not a whole lot for men. Has anyone found a site with more things that men would want to do?
I do a lot of things for charity, like hats and scarves, and have started doing knit stuffed animals. Those things are easy to find. Some of the things I have made for myself are things in Denver Broncos colors, but really, a hat, a scarf, and maybe a pair of mittens is about all in that ilk. I am eventually going to make a sweater for myself, but I am still building the skill set needed for that.
What I am really looking for is a site for men who knit. No, while I have nothing at all against gays and have many gay friends, I am not gay. I just watch too much TV and knitting gives me an excuse to watch TV

Nice stereotyping thinking that only gay men know. I've met several male knitters, and they were not involved with an alternative lifestyle.
No there are not a lot of patterns. There are a few sites with a few patterns. You might look for blogs that are a part of "Men Who Knit", and (just fount it) their website: http://www.menwhoknit.com/
Knitting with Balls is a good book to buy.

Here's a site with lots of men's clothing:
http://knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/mens_c...
I second dishcloths as well, http://knittingpatterncentral.com/directory/dishcl... has a great list with lots of options, I personally will be making one of the Texas Longhorns one listed.
I think it's wonderful that you knit, and especially that you knit for charity. I would think that if you are knitting hats and toys, you would have plenty of skill to be able to do socks or sweaters. There are lots of sweater patterns that you can find that are "top down" and most would then be placing stitches on stitch holders and then just picking them back up, no sewing needed.
I would also do a google search for blogs by male knitters, I can guarentee you aren't alone.
Happy knitting!
Edit: I found this site, http://www.menknit.net/links.html

My husbands Step-Father crochets and he is good and quick. I am currently trying to teach my 9 year old son, he has ADHD but when you put a hook and ball of yarn in his hands he is a different kid! I think that it is a relaxing and useful hobby and can't wait for my boy to get more advanced so I can see what his creative mind comes up with. I also watched a documentary about inmates men and woman being taught to knit and crochet in one of the prisons (don't remember which one) but they made baby blankets that were donated to the neonatal ICU at hospitals around the country, the prison is considered to be one of the better disciplined prisons with less violence even though most of the inmates were violent offenders, so I guess that is more proof that it is a relaxing hobby. I believe everybody man or woman can benefit from learning to knit or crochet.

All the men I know who knit are straight. I never thought anything of it. They (all married now) said knitting was a great way to meet girls. Of course, they'd take their knitting along on the train or bus or subway, or things like that.
I often knit in front of the TV. It gives me something to do with my hands. As to 'acquiring the skill set needed to do a sweater,' you probably already have it if you do hats! To knit a sweater, you need to be able to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and cast off. Then you need to crochet or sew it together. (The crocheting doesn't show and doesn't look girly, honest, but holds it together better than sewing.)
Sorry, I know of no sites for guys who knit. Start one!!

Have you tried "the blue blog" http://alison.knitsmiths.us/ ? Although Alison Hansel is a woman knitting, she has knitted for her DH and boys. She also has links that can take you where you want to go.
Have you tried knitting socks? Socks are versatile. They can be lacy or plain in all sorts of colours.
If you're brave enough you can try dishcloths. They're a quick knit and a great way to practise stitches on a small scale.
I think of knitting as an art.
I'm not gay either.

My family settled in a village in the year 700 in southern Europe and some of the family are still there. For over a thousand years my ancestors hunted, fished, grew food, tended to sheep, goats and chickens. And the men did knit! In their view, it was never a woman's thing--it had more to do with survival, knit warm clothing, create fishing nets and stronger ropes. So there! Knitting is not for the sissies!
So, here are some books for men who knit.
