Actually, if you have a major Internet provider, you may be able to get a free site through them. Most Internet providers allow you to upload your site as a personal web page. For example, comcast.net allows its users to put web sites up to 25MB online with no extra cost on their bills and absolutely no adds. The only problem with this is that the URL is long and has home.comcast.net in front of your user name. All free sites have something similar, though. You can purchase a domain that "points" to your site, though, for less than ten dollars a month.

Domain names are not free nor will they ever be free since there is an ICANN fee that every domain registrar has to pay when making a sale. If you buy a domain, you can hook it up to a free host if they allow it.

If you want a top level domain name, than the best thing to go with would be this:

    http://www.microsoft.com/smallbusiness/products/of...

It does require a credit card, but does not charge you a thing.
