What is the believers definition of Jesus? What is the non-believer's definition of Jesus?

Why is there a difference?

Jesus was a very wise man, but wasn't the "Son of God", a Messiah, or a Prophet.

Non-believer's definition of Jesus: Jewish rabbi who lived over 2,000 years ago. He created a cult branch of the Jewish religion and promoted that everyone should love thy neighbor. He is known mostly for "The Sermon on the Mount" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sermon_on_the_Mount and for being crucified by the Romans for claiming to be the son of God. After his death, his followers wrote some bizarre things about him to elevate him to godhood status. Through the teachings of the self-proclaimed "apostle" Paul, the cult was spread and when the Roman emperor Constantine endorsed it, it was protected, respected and spread as truth.

Believers believe that Jesus was Divine.

Non-believers believe that Jesus was just a man or that he didn't exist at all.

There is a difference because people have a right to choose what they will believe.

There will always be a difference in all of those who believe and do not believe.

I was raised Catholic and we were taught that he was the divine son of God. As I got older things changed for me and I made my own decisions.

While I don't believe he was divine or the son of God, I believe that he was a man with a dream and a vision, who used his faith and beliefs to pull people together - much like anyone else who starts a religion.

He was a man, just like the bible was written by man.

As an atheist I believe that Jesus is a character in a book. However that is just my personal belief.

IMHO, Jesus, which means "God's salvation", was orignally a metaphor for the Jewish people as a whole, and later on came to be confused as a first name when Jesus was historicized in the 2nd century.

there's a difference because we don't devote our lives to worshipping him.

what i think of jesus is that he was an entirely fictional charcter, OR a real person who got mythologized overtime (similar to St Nick, who Santa Claus is based off of). i like some of the things he supposedly said (don't judge, love thy neighbor) but not so much about other things he said (to be my disciple you have to hate everyone and even yourself which is in luke 14... 26?, pretty much anything that involves hating yourself and loving god in return).

This is the only sign I have ever had that there's such a thing as jesus or god-you haven't posted that pretentious CRAP about a personal relationship with the creator. Congratulations.

    Believer's definition of Jesus:

The very air we breathe, our reason for living and loving.

    Non beleiver's definition of Jesus:

A bad fairytale gone to seed.

His name was not Jesus. His name was Yeshua.

To me his the King of Kings.

To the unbeliever, he was just another black man.
