Ok, being married then later divorced I can say the reason why I waited 3 years to divorce was because I wanted to make sure I was making the right decision.

Now, I had many discussion with many people during that time, and I have come to the conclusion that it is EASIER to stay in a marriage then leave. Yes, it is EASIER to stay married.

You are probably going "What?", but let me explain. If I was married and I wasnt happy, what would be harder?

- staying with someone I know, someone I am used to, putting up with things, not having to go through a divorce, not having to go through dividing everything up, not having to go through being single, etc etc

OR

- divorcing and moving on. this would mean I would be single again and have to look for someone new, not everyone wants to be serious, not everyone is safe or sane, women tend to look down on a man with a failed married, if you marry and divorce onces, thats ok, twice is bad, three times..... also, no you have to restart your whole life. buying furniture, finding a place to live, sometimes you loose friends, and so on....

Now, if you are a girlfriend of a married man, that is not a good situation. You are basically waiting for him to do something so you two can get on with your lives together. More likely then none, he will not move on. There is a reason why he is still with his wife. I have seen many women stay with men and many wifes stay with husbands even though there is something going on on the side.

Plus if you are the "other woman" how do you not know he isnt cheating on you with his wife. It is possible

If I am understanding your question, you are speaking of a married man being able to stay in his bad marriage if he has a girlfriend on the side who does not want to marry him? Is that right? I would guess that most married men who have a girlfriend on the side do not want to see someone who wants to get married, as he is already married. And he hasn't left his wife so he is not looking for a wife, he already has one.

Married men who have a girlfriend usually do so to fill in some kind of blank left in their relationship with their wives. All people can tolerate a bad situation if they have someone to help fill in those blanks.

The question is should someone stay in a bad marriage to begin with, especially if it is so bad he has to be unfaithful to his wife. He also runs the risk of falling in love with his girlfriend, and she with him until someone ends up getting very hurt.

Perhaps if I were the girlfriend I would tell him to call me if and when he gets a divorce. ♥

I'm not married, but I live with my gf and we intend on getting married. What determines a bad marriage? It is because the people can't get along for some reason. Most of the time, it is because people change or people never change.

It is all about what people are willing to put up with. For instance, if my gf turned into lesbian, that might be terms for a possible divorce.

They stay in the bad marriage because if they try to get out they will have to give up half of every thing that they have. They also like to have their cake and eat it to. If you are going to marry someone, make sure you have similar life values and that you share emotional intimacy. If you don't, it's not going to work.
